Blueberries

Did you know blueberries are just one of many foods to improve memory? Do you like eating blueberries? I am fortunate enough to live near a “you pick farm” that has several types of blueberries. I love to gather up as many berries as I can. When I get home I wash them and then lay them in a single row on a cookie sheet and freeze them. They are great in smoothies or just as a snack.

2

Apples

We all know that apples are good for keeping the doctor away. Your brain power is another great reason to eat apples. It is said the antioxidants in apples protect against Alzheimer’s disease. The specific antioxidants that help with this are mostly found in the skin and not the flesh.

3

Spinach

Studies have found the spinach can actually reverse memory loss. The reason behind this is the high amounts folic acid. Spinach is easy to add into your diet. I usually request spinach over lettuce in salads and on my sandwiches. It’s also a great vegetable to add to dinner. Try sautéing with a little olive oil and garlic.

4

Grapes

Red, purple, and black grapes contain quercetin and anthocyanin. These are the antioxidants that help with memory. Keep grapes on hand for snacking. They are a great thing to eat at the desk while working or at night watching television. My family loves grapes. We often have grapes with a movie instead of popcorn. Of course, this also means red wine is not just good for your heart, but also your brain.

5

Fish

We already know how amazing the omega-3 fatty acids are for heart, these fish also contain DHA which is good for the brain. It is said that DHA is important for proper function of our brain neurons. Are you a fish eater? I must admit, only recently have I started to enjoy eating certain fish, like salmon and tuna.

Avocado

I love this little green guy. Avocado is great as a dip, sliced on a sandwich, chopped up in a salad, or by itself. Avocado is a wonderful source of vitamin E, which is linked to brain function and memory. How do you prefer to eat avocado?

7

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are another great source of vitamin E. I’m going to guess that baseball players have terrific memories. I mean, those guys spend all nine innings chewing on sunflower seeds. The thing I like about sunflower seeds is how great a snack they make. Eating a sunflower seed takes a little work, when you have to remove the shell. It stops you from being able to stuff yourself with seeds.

If you are already eating a healthy diet packed with fish, fruits, and green veggies you are already doing a lot to improve memory and fight off Alzheimer’s Disease. If you haven’t made a complete change to a fully healthy diet then this is just another crucial reason why it is so important to eat well.
