1

Olive Oil

Olive Oil Olive oil tops the list of foods that prevent breast cancer because it’s loaded with antioxidants that protect you from free radical damage. Free radicals are those nasty little things that alter your cell structure, which plays a role in tumor growth and cancer development. Use olive oil when you sauté vegetables or marinate meat. It also works well as the base for homemade salad dressing. Or, you could just down a couple of tablespoons plain each day.

2

Leafy Greens

Leafy Greens Not only do they taste great, but green, leafy vegetables are rich in vitamin B, which helps keep your DNA healthy so it doesn’t fall victim to cancer development. So, go ahead, grab whatever type is on sale, and whip yourself up a salad that you can feel great about eating. If you can’t stomach plain greens, try mincing them and tossing them in pasta sauce, meatloaf or a green smoothie. You can reap the benefits without the often-bitter taste that makes many people dislike green, leafy vegetables.

3

Salmon

Salmon If you can’t say "no" to a delicious and savory fillet of salmon, your breasts thank you. That’s because salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which can help counteract the inflammation that sometimes leads to cancer. You’ll get the most benefit by eating two servings of salmon each week. Try seasoning a fillet with salt, pepper and crushed garlic, wrap it in foil and grill it on your barbecue. You get to enjoy the delicious flavor without the lingering odor in your house!

4

Walnuts

Yes, they do contain calories, so you don’t want to eat them by the bucketful, but walnuts have been shown to slow tumor development in animal studies. What does that mean for you? It means that you can enjoy the yummy taste and keep your breasts healthy at the same time. Add chopped walnuts to salad, pancakes and trail mix. Or, just go ahead a nibble a handful while you watch television at night.

5

Orange, Yellow and Red Fruits and Vegetables

Orange, Yellow and Red Fruits and Vegetables All fruits and vegetables play a role in cancer prevention to some degree because they all contain antioxidants. However, those bright red, orange and yellow ones also contain carotenoids, which can help lower the risk of breast cancer, according to medical research. Toss red peppers, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and squash into your cart.

Cabbage

You might think cabbage doesn’t have any health value, but you’d be wrong. It might not look like much, but cabbage contains plant compounds that may protect you from breast cancer. Make yummy coleslaw, toss some cabbage in your next salad or top your hot dog with sauerkraut, which offers the same benefits and tastes great!

7

Low-Fat Dairy

Besides having loads of calcium for healthy bones, low-fat dairy foods contain vitamin D, which shows promise as a way to prevent the development of breast cancer. Full-fat dairy foods, while still chock-full of calcium, don’t offer the same benefits because they’re also high in saturated fat. Go for low-fat milk, yogurt and cream cheese to reap the vitamin D benefits without all the fat.

Many claims of breast cancer prevention are only backed by preliminary research or animal studies. However, most medical professionals recommend eating a healthy and well-balanced diet for protection from many diseases. What will you do to protect your breasts today?

Teri - great advice! Thanks for adding that!

Except for the dairy, I\'m good. I prefer Almond Milk to cow\'s milk. Also hormones play a big role in breast cancer prevention. Make sure all your animal and animal products are hormone free.

I\'m vegetarian and I think everyone should be because it prevents cancer
