Sore Throat

This is one of the health benefits of honey that I’ve been using for years! Honey is a great cure for a sore throat. You can either eat a few teaspoons of honey straight down, or mix it with a teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt to be a bit more effective and soothing. No matter which method you choose, this tip is guaranteed to help nix a sore throat and heal it faster.

Cuts and Scrapes

Got a little scrape that is painful and not healing fast enough? Apply a little honey to the area and let it sit for a while! You could put a bandage over it if you like. Honey has powerful antibacterial properties, and it can help reduce the pain and swelling. Your cut is sure to heal up in no time at all if you use a little honey on it!

3

Energy Booster

For days when you are just dragging, skip the coffee. Instead, reach for honey, a more natural and effective way to get more energy! You can mix a few teaspoons of honey into your tea, spread some on your toast, or even have a little bit of honey water! It’s good to eat some honey before a workout too, if you’re planning to push yourself extra hard.

4

Hangovers

Who knew that honey was the perfect cure to a hangover! The natural sugars in honey help speed up the oxidation of alcohol by the liver. Try mixing a little honey with some orange juice and yogurt to make the perfect “hangover smoothie” that will help you get back to your normal self.

5

Immunity System Builder

The awesome antioxidants in honey can help you to build a powerful immune system. If you work in an area or place where you are exposed to lots of germs from the public, consider drinking a bit of tea with honey and lemon juice in it each day. And mothers can certainly feed their children this mixture to help them get through cold and flu season unscathed! Just avoid giving any child under the age of 1 year old any honey. Most doctors won’t recommend introducing honey to a child’s digestive system until they are well over one year old.

Restful Sleep

In order to make sure you get a peaceful night's rest, fix yourself a nice cup of warm milk and honey before you go to bed. Honey helps relax and calm you, prepping you for a good night's sleep! Warm milk has been a known remedy for a while, but if you add honey, you’re sure to drift off to wonderland.

Bad Breath

I was surprised to learn that honey can be the cure for bad breath! Of course you should still brush your teeth every day, but if you deal with chronic bad breath issues, you can try this recipe: add one teaspoon of honey and a sprinkling of cinnamon on top of your toast. You should help nix the bad breath problem in no time if you eat a little honey and cinnamon every day!

Knowing these health benefits of honey might save you from making a needless trip to the store to pick up cough drops or Neosporin! Most of us have some honey sitting around in our cabinets and it’s easy to whip up some tea or make a bit of toast to go with your daily honey dose! Do you know of any other health benefits of honey?

I'm with Jessica.. I was confused about the energy and calming effect as well

Allergies!

So it gives you an energy boost (3) and helps you sleep (6). Haha. Which is it?

I love honey! Get unpasteurized of course because otherwise you are not getting nearly all the nutrients honey has to offer! And no....just because it's unpasteurized does not mean it's bad, they pasteurize honey so it can last longer on the shelves.

Is organic honey preferred or is the honey that comes in the bear shaped bottle good too?

I love honey so much. I try to put a little on all kinds of stuff, even into baking :)
