Totally Obvious Reasons Why You Shouldn't Sleep with Your Phone ...

Are you wondering why people are making such a big deal about the reasons why you shouldn't sleep with your phone?

Don’t deny it! You, just like millions of other modern tech users around the world, are prone to falling asleep with your beloved smartphone right by your pillow. It’s the last thing you look at before you go to sleep at night, and it’s the first thing that you look at when you wake up in the morning. Some people argue that putting it on your bedside table and leaving it for the night is acceptable. Some people argue it should be on the other side of the room, and some even argue that it should be completely out of sight and out of mind. So what exactly is the problem with sleeping next to your cell phone?

Here's why you shouldn't sleep with your phone.

You Lose out on Sleep

Having your phone right next to your head and hands is a sure fire way to increase your chances of restless sleep. You will feel a compulsion to keep checking notifications, and therefore not fully engage in deep sleep. Lack of the sleep is the biggest reason why you shouldn't sleep with your phone. You might not get the chance to fully relax and get the restful sleep your body needs. If you do manage to fall asleep, but have forgotten to switch your phone to night or airplane mode, a stray text message, call or news alert will wake you from a deep slumber and potentially leave you feeling more tired than before.

Health Problems

Some experts believe that the electromagnetic properties of your phone are not suitable for having it rest by your head for hours and hours on end. Some experts caution about the risk of brain tumours and the impact on fertility in men.

Tips for Sleeping without Your Phone

• Rather than placing your phone on charge in your bedroom, charge it in the kitchen instead. Other than the bathroom, it’s the first room you will visit in the morning, and you can catch up on anything missed then.

• Buy an old-fashioned alarm clock to get you up in the morning. This means that you won’t have to rely on having your phone nearby to set an alarm to wake you up, taking away the temptation to play.

• Don’t use any of the popular sleep tracking apps that are out there. Studies have shown that people become so preoccupied with their statistics that it can actually interfere with their natural sleeping habits.

• Commit to making the area around your bed a tech free zone. Fill your bedside table with books rather than apps and you might find that you’ll feel much less stimulated and restless at bedtime.

• Do what you can to optimise your sleeping environment. Make the decision that the bedroom area is for sleeping and sexual intimacy only, and it will become a sanctuary away from the distractions of phones.

Your life doesn’t get put on hold when you don’t have your phone in your hand, but it can seriously interrupt your sleep, which can affect your health and well-being.
