1

Crummy Sleep

One of the first signs your hormones are out of whack is poor sleep. You might have a hormone imbalance if you are having trouble falling or staying asleep. Hormones like melatonin and cortisol affect sleep. It's no surprise to hear that cortisol affects sleep considering that cortisol is directly linked to the body's stress levels.

2

Changes in Skin and Hair

It’s no surprise that acne and breakouts or oily hair are related to hormones, but did you know that dry skin and hair or even hair loss can be a result of hormones? It’s true, low thyroid can cause these things. Fortunately low thyroid function is easily detected through a blood test and corrected by taking a small pill every day. Be sure to see your doctor if you have noticed any of these changes in your skin and hair.

3

Tiredness

Are you feeling tired despite regular sleep? Constant fatigue can be a sign of a hormone imbalance. Of course fatigue is also a symptom of many illnesses. If you wake up feeling fatigued after a full night's sleep, consult with your doctor to find the exact reason behind your tiredness.

4

Moodiness

Mood swings and irritability are common hormone problems, but it may not always be related to your period. Even severe moodiness during PMS is not normal. If you are feeling this way your cortisol, testosterone, or estrogen levels may be the culprit. Without proper treatment, occasional mood swings can escalate into anxiety or depression.

5

Hot Flashes

Most of us think of hot flashes as being a symptom of menopause, which we all know is related to hormones. However, hot flashes are also related to other hormones being out of whack. You may experience hot flashes if your cortisol level is imbalanced.

Food Cravings

If you find yourself with an overwhelming craving for carbohydrates, it is possible you are having problems with your insulin. Insulin helps regulate blood sugar. This could be a sign of diabetes or insulin resistance. Blood sugar and insulin problems aren't something to mess around with. The sooner this hormone imbalance is detected, the sooner you can get it under control.

Weight Gain

Weight gain can be a sign of several different hormone imbalances. Cortisol, thyroid hormones, insulin, and estrogen levels can all affect your weight. If you have noticed a change in your weight, yet your diet and activity levels have stayed the same, talk to your doctor about hormone testing.

Having hormones out of whack isn’t a fun time. Luckily, you are now aware of the different symptoms of hormone imbalances. If you think your hormones are off, you need to consult your doctor. After telling her your symptoms and concerns, she can order the proper test and help you get back to normal. If you have any experience with wacky hormones, please share your story with us.

Would any of these have to do with possibly being in early stages of pregnancy!?

I've hade all of these symptoms since a young age and they keep me from having a normal life or relationships but I've been tested for thyroid irregularities and it was all normal, what kind of specialist should I consult to get any of the other test made? Thank you in advance

Speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms and situation. They will probably refer you to either a gynecologist or an endocrinologist or maybe even both. Good luck & God bless!
