1

Emergen-C

Emergen-C Emergen-C comes in either a powder form that you mix with water or chewable tablets. I prefer the tablets because I think they taste better and go down easier than a full cup of water mixed with it. Emergen-C is packed with 1,000 mg of vitamin C, the ultimate immune system booster, as well as 32 other mineral complexes and B vitamins. This is a fantastic immune support supplement that should be on the top of your list of vitamins and supplements to take when you feel a cold coming on!

2

Green Tea & Honey

Green Tea & Honey Green tea is full of immune support. It's loaded with antioxidants, opens up the airways and soothes a sore throat. Honey brings out the flavor in any tea, coats the throat, and is a healthy alternative to white sugar. Green tea has been used for thousands of years medicinally- it wards off the symptoms of the common cold and flu, and prevents certain kinds of cancers such as skin, colon and prostate cancers. It has also been shown to help you lose weight- you may have noticed many diet supplements contain concentrated green tea extract. Green tea lowers your body fat, reduces bad cholesterol and boosts your metabolism.

3

Thyme Oil

Thyme Oil Thyme oil is an essential oil that's extremely potent- it has antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. Just a single drop a few times a day taken with some honey will work to kick that cold or flu bug to the curb. It's particularly useful for treating and preventing the stomach virus and other tummy bugs. Thyme oil is commonly found in mouthwashes and vapor rubs because of its potency and purifying capabilities. It's on the expensive side, especially the pure grade version of this essential oil. Make sure you are getting only the pure grade because other forms can't be taken internally with all of the additives.

4

Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry Syrup There's some promising evidence that elderberry syrup, which is just a concentrated syrup of the berry itself, may prevent the flu and boost the production of some immune cells as well as help block a virus's ability to replicate. I have many friends who swear by the stuff, take it regularly, and know it to shorten their symptoms of the flu. I take it as well and I have noticed a difference in my overall energy when I feel a cold coming on! The best part is that it's completely natural so you and even your kids can take it multiple times a day.

5

Ginger & Honey

Ginger & Honey Suffering from a nagging sore throat and/or cough? A wonderful natural remedy is a combination of warm ginger and honey. Heat up a piece of ginger root with honey on the stove and blend until warm. You can take a spoonful 3 or 4 times a day for the perfect throat coat. Try not to drink anything for at least a half hour after you take it so the effects take place. It will ease your cough and sore throat, guaranteed. I use this mixture myself as well as giving it to my son when he has a cough.

Echinacea

Echinacea Echinacea comes in many forms and is usually taken in herbal teas and pill supplements. Echinacea is a plant (herb) that has been shown to reduce the length and severity of colds and flu symptoms. It works by activating certain chemicals in the body to reduce inflammation and thus, cold and flu symptoms. Echinacea can also attack yeast and other fungi directly, which is why it's also used as a treatment for topical skin issues and yeast infections.

7

Raw Garlic

Raw Garlic Yuck! Raw garlic does not sound appealing but apparently it seems to stimulate the immune system in a big way by fighting off viruses and reducing the risk of catching a cold. Garlic oil when warmed and dropped in the ears also works well for fighting off ear infections and wax build-up. Garlic works best when consumed raw, either crushed, diced or minced to release its potency. Overcooking garlic may destroy important medicinal compounds necessary for it to be effective!

So, when you feel your next cold coming on, try one (or all!) of these methods to give your immune system the extra boost it needs to fight off infection! Have any of you taken these supplements before? What other vitamins and natural cures have you found to be effective? Share them in the comments section!

Elderberry extract or tea, definitely.

Ever since I was little as soon as my first sneeze or sniffle happened my mom would start pumping me full of vitamin c and echinacea. I do think it helps a lot!
