3. Clean Your House

I know this may sound silly, but if you decide to quit smoking, it’s very important to have a clean, fresh breathing air in your home or at work or wherever you may go. To not give into temptation you should definitely avoid the smell of tobacco. That’s why you should start cleaning right away! Wash all your clothes, your curtains, drapes or other objects that may smell like cigarettes. Use air fresheners, incense sticks or scented candles!

4. Exercise!

If you want to give up smoking, you must be aware of the fact that by exercising you can significantly decrease the intensity of the symptoms caused by the lack of nicotine in your body. That’s why, every time you might feel the need to light up a cigarette put on your sports gear and go! Even the most simple things, like walking your dog or gardening could help you forget about smoking.

5. Eat a Lot of Fruits and Vegetables

I don’t know if you already knew this, but I found it to be very interesting: the scientists from Duke University advise people who try to quit smoking to eat as many fruits and vegetables (or even fat-free dairy products) as possible, because, besides all the nutrients that they’re containing, they will also give you the impression that tobacco has a very very unpleasant taste and thus, you won’t feel the need to light up a smoke. Very tricky and clever, I might say, and especially, very easy to do. Just give it a try!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I second Allen Carr's book or a seminar. It's the ONLY way to stop smoking permanently and without suffering caused by willpower metods.

@gwen -getting pregnant doesnt make someone miraculously stop smoking. Smoking is an addiction.

Just get pregnant

I successfully quit smoking 6 years ago using 2 methods. The first was Alan Carr's book "Easy Way to Stop Smoking". The second was weaning myself off of cigarettes over the course of 6 months. I gradually smoked a smaller quantity of cigarettes each day and also smoked less of each individual cigarette. By the time I quit I was smoking about 3 puffs of 2 cigarettes a day and even that tasted vile! Oh, also have a look at a picture of a smoker's lung compared with a healthy lung ... It's excellent motivation to never touch another cigarette again!!!

Exercise. The only way. Pick up a jump rope every time you want one. Or do sit ups. It will also keep you from gaining the ten pounds

Love this Thanks so much for posting as I am an occasional smoker, and I love my cigarettes, but know I have to stop. Employing a combination of these tips that I have found in different locations has helped me cut down...now I have them all together, I believe. I can quit altogether

They should ban it from being sold in shops altogether. that would stop alot of people from even starting

I've tried all these tips and nothing worked out but reading and taking the Allen Carr course: Easyway to stop smoking. It is really effective!
