4. Suppression

Suppression is a conscious defense mechanism in which you stop memories in their tracks. For example, if you start to get overwhelmed with a loved oneโ€™s death months after they passed away, you may stop yourself from thinking about it and redirect your thoughts. However, not dealing with repressed issues such as loss can have a snowball effect as it rolls into your friendships, expression of other loved onesโ€™ deaths, and other areas of your life.
