Watching the World

Have you ever tried people-watching? It´s fascinating just sitting watching the world go by. It´s very relaxing, as you´re not really doing anything, and yet entertaining at the same time. So spend some time sitting at a café or on a bench, idly watching what´s going on around you.

2

Lying on the Grass

One of the most delightful ways to do nothing is to lie on the grass and look up at the sky. It´s especially nice if it´s warm enough to go barefoot, so you can feel the grass under your feet. So lie in your garden, or go to a park, and enjoy lying on the grass.

3

Snooze

Having a siesta is probably the ultimate way of doing nothing! A brief snooze can actually be really good for you, if you don´t overdo it. You´ll feel refreshed and relaxed, and ready to get on with your day. It´s one way in which doing nothing can be really positive.

4

Watching Pets

Spending some time watching your pets is a really relaxing pastime. And anything that makes you relaxed is a good thing. So watch your dog playing, your cat stretching or your fish swimming, and just enjoy the simple pleasure that it brings.

5

Cuddling

Having a cuddle with someone is a very simple activity, but extremely beneficial. Whether it´s your child or your partner, simply curling up with them and enjoying a cuddle appears to be doing nothing, but it makes you feel happy and contented.

Famous Quotes

To give oneself earnestly to the duties due to men, and, while respecting spiritual beings, to keep aloof from them, may be called wisdom.

Paddling

Do you live near the coast or a lake? Bring out your inner child and go for a paddle (weather permitting, of course!). Or if you don´t live near water, get your kids´ paddling pool out. Dipping your toes in water is a simple, fun activity that we´ve forgotten about – so go get your feet wet!

7

Daydreaming

Daydreaming is a brilliant way of doing nothing. We spend so much time thinking hard, that it´s lovely to just let your mind wander where it wants. Not only is it relaxing, but you never know – your unconscious mind may actually come up with some amazingly useful ideas!

Meditation

Meditation is so good for us, yet not enough people practice it. You don´t have to sit in a room with a group chanting “Om” – just sit in a quiet space and switch your mind off. This can be difficult at first, but with practice you´ll learn the techniques, and receive the many benefits that meditation has to offer.

Doing nothing might not seem very productive, but given how busy our lives are, it´s extremely beneficial to stop, sit back, and do very little. We need a break from the many activities and demands that occupy our time. Do you have any favourite ways to do nothing?
