1

Walk Uphill

If you are near any medium sized hills by your work or home, walking briskly or running up and walk down the hill is one of the great ways to be more active and work in some cardio during the day! Walk back slowly to recover and then give it your all on the way back up. If you’re self-conscious about running up a hill in front of nosy co-workers, just walk briskly. Make sure you keep workout shoes at your desk!

2

Chair Squat

Doing chair squats throughout the day is a quick way to get fit without getting too hot and sweaty or call too much attention to yourself. Every few hours or so while you’re sitting down, reach your arms out to the front to balance yourself while you lift yourself up until your hips are over your chair and then stand up. Repeat this step 15 times to get your blood flowing and work that bootie!

3

Jump Rope

If you’ve asked yourself how to be more active during the day without having to haul around equipment, doing pretend jump rope or cordless jump rope is an easy way to burn some cals and get your heart pumping! Do this for a few minutes or as long as you can and then repeat, if you can’t do this at work or don’t want to, do it before you get ready for work in the morning. Doing pretend jump rope burns the same amount of calories as jumping with a rope but the cordless kind is much better for clumsy gals like me!

4

Dance

A fun way to be more active is to put on music to get you going in the morning or evening and dance! Dance your little arse off from the beginning to end of a song and dance to as many songs as your body can take. Pretend you’re in the music video, dance out your aggressions or just practice some new moves for the club! Dancing can be an awesome quickie workout because it gets you moving and it’s so much fun!

5

March

Marching in place at your desk for 60 seconds at a time is a quiet way to be more active while giving yourself a break from sitting in front of your computer. If you share your cubicle or you have no privacy and feel silly marching in place, hit the stairs for a few floors or do a lap around your floor instead and stretch your legs.

Go out of Your Way

Going out of your way to do everyday things is another one of the steps in how to be more active during the day. Use the office equipment that’s on the other side of the building, take the stairs to use the bathroom on another floor, park far away, walk to your lunch spot instead of driving all of these little things done daily will add up!

7

Sit Less

Use your breaks as a reminder to get up, get moving as another one of the ways to be more active. Whenever you have a morning or afternoon break, use it to walk around and visit with a co-worker instead of emailing her. When lunch time hits, use part of the time to sit and eat and the remainder of the time to take a walk outside. Bring your iPod or call up a friend if you find walking boring and you’ll feel refreshed and revived to get back to work! If you have a standing desk, take advantage of it and use it as much as possible!

8

Wake up Earlier

Waking up just a few minutes earlier each day will give you some time and ways to be more active! If you have a hard time waking up early, start slow by waking up a few minutes earlier then work up to 15 to 30 minutes or more and use that time to stretch, do yoga, walk your dog, hop on your treadmill or just get to work earlier so you can get home earlier to get some exercise!

There are tons of ways to be more active every day and these are just a few of the easy ways to work in some exercise without having to carve out a long block of time or race to the gym during your lunch. Incorporate a few of these tips into your day to be more active, feel better inside and out and stop feeling guilty about not having the time to work out!
