A Neti Pot

A neti-pot is one of the most common natural health remedies you’re probably already familiar with. Steam and a saline solution are applied through the nose through nasal irrigation. A neti pot cleanse involves nothing more than a small pot, which includes a tip you insert in one nostril at a time with the mixture of steam and the saline solution in the pot. This home remedy is common in most parts of India, and South Asia. Many people practicing natural health in the U.S. and Canada have also started to use neti pots for their benefits. You can learn more about how to use one at: wikihow.com.

Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is a personal favorite healing method of my own. It can help heal everything from a cough to an upset stomach, inflammation, and yes, the common cold. Ginger is a healer and cleanser in one, which makes it a wonderful food to use. To make your own ginger tea, boil one cup of water and let a few inches of shaved ginger steep in it for 3 minutes. I also like to add a squeeze of lemon and cayenne to enhance the benefits. This will cleanse your entire body, including your sinuses and your chest cavities.

Camu-camu Berries

Have you heard of these superfood berries? I keep camu-camu on hand all year, and it is my go-to remedy if I ever feel a cold coming on. One teaspoon has 98% more Vitamin C than an orange, and also contains beta-carotene, potassium, iron, fiber, and no sugar. It is also a rich source of iron, calcium, and other trace minerals. As you all know, Vitamin C is one of the best immune system boosters to use. Camu-camu is a much more natural solution than standardized Vitamin C medicines sold today. It has a delightful sweet and sour taste, and is sold as a powder here in the U.S. Though a bit pricey, one container lasts a long time, and is so much better for you than synthetic (chemically-derived) sources of Vitamin C. My favorite brand is Bright Earth Superfoods brand, which you can find here: shop.brightearthsuperfoods.com.

Garlic Salt Water Gargle

One way that my mom used to give myself and my brother quick cold relief, especially one that eased congestion is one I hated, but it works! You add a pinch of salt and one clove of garlic to a large glass of boiling water. Let it steep for 2 minutes, come back, and gargle in the back of your mouth, but don’t swallow! It relieves headaches, a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and congestion. Do it twice a day until you find relief.

5

Honey

Honey is another popular natural healing method used for colds due to its antibacterial properties. I suggest adding it to a cup of hot tea, which will clear your sinuses, and help enhance your health. It’s especially helpful when used with lemon and ginger. Using it in hot liquids is key, and more therapeutic for a cold than eating it out of the jar.

Steam Showers or Baths

Sometimes, nothing more than water is all you need for a little cold relief. Run a hot bath, or take a hot steam shower. The steam can help you release fluids that can be easier to cough up and get out of your body than letting them stay inside and further the infection.

7

Green Tea

I always keep green tea on hand, and especially when I feel the flu or a cold coming on. Green tea is an all-around healer. There’s almost nothing it can’t do! Brew hot green tea, and add lemon to boost the taste and anti-oxidant content. Not only will it soothe your throat, but the anti-oxidants will also help speed up healing.

There are many natural cold remedies you can use, which don’t include taking prescription drugs at all. Be sure to keep some tissues on hand, get lots of rest, and try a few of these natural remedies. You’ll feel better in no time! Do you use any of these natural remedies in your own home?

I also use onion syrup, made with chopped onions, sugar and honey, it's delicious and it helps the cold. Warm milk with honey is another option.

Just number 6. Lol! 😊☺️😉😋

BEWARE: Neti pots are extremely harmful if not used with distilled water. You can NOT use tap water.

I mix honey with 1 teaspoon of ginger and cinnamon and after eating it drink some green tea, also warm soup with garlic and lemon is a must! Garlic heals everything!

I have an essential oil diffuser that I use several different oils like eucalyptus and Teatree oil is a good one.

Detox bath should do help as well.
