Periods. The majority of us have them on a regular basis, and it’s safe to say that the majority of us absolutely hate them! From the cramps to the hormones to general feeling of fed upness, periods can be the worst, and another factor that some people struggle with every month is the fact that mainstream period products don’t tend to be the most environmentally ethical. 1

Reusable Tampon Applicator

Rather than buying tampons that are equipped with a disposable plastic applicator, instead consider trying out a reusable applicator that works with the kinds of tampons that come without any tubes to begin with. They last for a long time and have self cleaning properties, making them a perfect eco-friendly alternative to having to throw away a piece of plastic every time you change your tampon.

2

Organic Cotton

You can be more environmentally conscious by making the effort to seek out sanitary products that are made with organic cotton. You can get both pads and tampons in that style, and the cotton hasn’t been sprayed with chemical pesticides or bleaches that are harmful to the earth. Less risk of toxic shock syndrome too.

3

Tampliner

A tampliner is a new creation, a cross between a tampon and panty liner that aims to make pesky leaks a thing of the past. The eco-friendly aspect of this new invention is that the entire thing is 95% biodegradable and made from organic cotton, so you can be safe in the knowledge that you are doing your bit whilst also enjoying a leak free period!

4

Menstrual Cups

You might have tried a menstrual cup one and decided it wasn’t for you, but they are really worth revisiting and giving it a longer go. It takes a little practise to get used to them, but once you do, there is no going back, and their reusable nature means that you will be doing your bit for the environment by not throwing away heaps of plastic every month. Not to mention the fact that you are decreasing your own exposure to chemically treated materials.
