Cucumbers

In addition to having a rich source of antioxidants and flavonoids that help with redness, swelling and irritation, cucumbers also have a cooling effect that constricts dilated blood vessels, thereby reducing the appearance of eye puffiness. To treat puffy eyes, place a cool cucumber slice over each eye and rest for 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can blend 2 to 3 cucumbers, strain the pulp to extract the liquid, and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Next, soak a cotton swab in the juice and apply the cucumber extract over each eye. Rinse off with water after 15-20 minutes.

Another option is to grate a raw potato, place it in a few layers of cheesecloth, and lay the pouch over the eyes for a about 10-15 minutes.

Often, whole milk is used for its fat content which has a smoothing effect, however, it is the combination of proteins, amino acids, lactic acid, and vitamins A and D that helps in reducing eye puffiness. To treat puffy eyes, saturate a clean wash towel in ice cold milk and place over eyes for about 15 minutes.

Both caffeinated and herbal/non-caffeinated teas contain a natural astringent, tannin, that constricts the tiny blood vessels in the skin around the eyes and helps to reduce swelling. To reap the benefits of tea as a treatment for eye puffiness, place two tea bags in a mug of hot water. Remove, let the tea bags cool to room temperature, and place on eyes for 15-30 minutes. This should be done 1-2 times a week to help tighten and tone the skin under and around the eyes.

It produces the same effect as cold water in terms of constricting the blood vessels in the skin under puffy eyes; however, this process involves placing two spoons in the fridge overnight and then putting the spoons separately over each eye in the morning. Spoons may be wrapped in a piece of clean cloth/towel to avoid discomfort.
