Spice It up

The spices used in Indian cuisine are very healthy for you. Tumeric not only adds color to your dish but also helps to treat arthritis, heartburn, stomach pain and bloating, gas and diarrhea. Cardamom also has some great benefits including alleviating stomach and intestinal related ailments similar to tumeric. Plus, the spices used in an Indian diet such as cinnamon and cloves help spice dishes up and give them a richer taste than bland, processed food we tend to down instead.

2

Alzheimer's

The food you put into your body has a big effect on how your body functions. Studies by the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) have proven that turmeric prevents the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease. The spice naturally blocks the formation of beta-amyloid which causes cerebral malfunction. What’s more, the rate of Alzheimer’s is 4.4 times less for individuals who live in India than those who live in the United States.

3

Chillies

If you have diabetes, eating an Indian diet could actually be more helpful than you originally thought. The University of Tasmania observed a positive correlation between the intake of chillies and the maintenance of insulin levels. Garlic also has a similar effect when it comes to regulating blood sugar.

4

Fresh Produce

One aspect that’s key when it comes to Indian cuisine is fresh produce. Sure, you spend more time when it comes to food prep but you can be sure that your body is being taken care of. Fresh food rather than fast food keeps your organs working regularly and efficiently.

5

Healthy

CNN reports that Indian food is the fifth healthiest cuisine. It prevents against certain forms of cancer and has anti-inflammatory properties. With fresh food and vibrant spices, it’s no wonder why you’ll love this food. You might be misguided because of heavy curries but the satisfying nature of Indian food helps you from putting on pounds. Well, that is if you mix up your diet rather than only eating fried foods such as samosas.

Being an indian myself, I really liked the post :) love indian food

I loved this post! After seeing so many people discouraging Indian food as they think it's heavy, it felt really good to see someone loving the food! From my experience, I could say that there is no other cuisine in this world which has so much flavour and richness like the Indian cuisine!

just be careful when cooking as the oil/ghee used can pile on the calories!!!!!

Really liked the article, thanks🌸

I can survive only 2-3 days without eating Indian food, after that I must have spicy indian food to get my brain working..LOL

grt article thanks for putting Indian food in positive light Indian food is more than curries

loved the article.. indian food is been misunderstood all around the world as "heavy", "spicy" ans "smelly" which is not true. me being an indian can tell you 100s of dishes to try which are light and healthy :) well i loved this post.. :)

Great article! There is a general misconception among people that all Indian food is spicy and has cream/ butter in it. Most of the Indian dishes that restaurants serve are rich as, let's face it, it is yummy and fast selling. But there are a lot of Indian dishes that are light on the stomach and really tasty but still relatively unknown as they are not mainstream. South-Indian food, especially Kerala and Mangalorean food comes to mind here.
