Welcome to your summer lifesaver! Ways to keep your car cool! If you, like me, are living in a place that is experiencing unusually high summer temperatures right now, then it’s safe to assume that you are having some trouble with keeping your car at a hospitable temperature! We all know about the severe dangers of keeping children and pets in cars, but even if you don’t have either of those things to worry about, your car can still feel like a damn furnace! If it is your main source of transport during the summer, then you are going to be spending more time in it that you would like to in this weather. Here are the ten best tips for keeping your car cool!
1. Early a/C
Don’t let a cooler morning trick you in to thinking that you don’t need to use you’re A/C on the way into work. You would be surprised by just how quickly the sun can heat up in a short time, and you don’t want to risk being sweaty and gross before you even get to the office. Blast the A/C from the first minute and your car will be a cool haven the whole time.
2. Don’t Re-Circulate
If you have a re-circulate option in your car, don’t use it. This only tends to pull the cool air from the front of the cabin and reuse that, so anyone sitting in the back passenger seats won’t feel any of the benefit.
Search for a spot to park that is under shade, because leaving your car out under the full glare of the sun all day is a sure fire way to ruin your day on the way home! It can take an age for the A/C to kick in, and any kind of drink or food that you might have left in the car will be totally ruined and smelly.
4. Cover Leather
There is nothing worse than having to sit on boiling hot leather car seats! You can avoid this by covering up the seats with a blanket which will make them much less susceptible to the sun through the windows.
5. Release the Heat
If you aren’t in a super hurry to get home, it helps to crack a window and what a little bit for the heat to escape the car before you get in. This means that the A/C doesn’t have to work so hard to cool everything down.
6. Don’t Pre Cool
Turning on the A/C and leaving your car to cool by itself won’t be as effective, because the air compressor runs much faster when the engine is actually running. You’ll cool down quicker if you just start driving.
7. Avoid Stop-Start
Disable your car’s stop-start function if you can. It might be useful when in lots of traffic, but it can actually keep turning your A/C off whenever it goes in to stop mode.
8. Right Angle
Take some time to get the right angles aligned with the A/C slats in your car. Point one at you, and then the others strategically around the car so that the cool air can circulate efficiently.
Make sure that you maintain your A/C facility properly, making sure that filters aren’t clogged etc. You don’t want to be caught in a desperate breakdown situation!
This isn’t really one of the ways to keep your car cool but it’s an important tip. Your A/C might be keeping you cool, but it’s not protecting you from sun damage. If you’re going for a long drive always remember to apply sunscreen. The rays can be even more penetrating when they come through glass.
