Want some simple ways to be healthier at work? When you decide to embark on a fitness journey and begin making plans, the majority of those plans are to do with the activities and other things that you are going to be doing in your free time, like exercise and cooking, etc. One big life area that often gets forgotten in the midst of a full fitness vision board is work. You spend a considerable amount of every day at work, and whether you realise it or not, work is one of the places where you can foster unhealthy and unhelpful behaviours. You might have your gym membership booked and your workout clothes purchased, but if you aren’t making an effort in the office too, then you won’t see full results. Here are some simple ways to be healthier at work.
1 Desk Garden
Make the effort to have some plants present on your desk because this is one of the coolest simple ways to be healthier at work. Not only will they look pretty and enhance your mood, but they can also make a difference to your health, thanks to their air filtering qualities. Also, did you know that some cacti have actually been proven to be able to reduce computer radiation?
2 Ergonomics Apps
Download the Ergonomics app itunes.apple.com because it a treasure trove of health tips for office workers who have to spend up to ten hours sitting at a desk in front of a computer. It provides demos and tutorials for quick posture correction and ideal ways of sitting, it shows you how to do specific office worker type stretches, it has tips for adjusting your chair, keyboard and mouse to the ideal positions, and it will also send notifications for when you should be drinking water to stay hydrated!
3 Stability Ball
You might think it looks stupid in an office setting, but using a stability ball rather than a traditional office chair can be really beneficial! The round, bouncy nature of the ball will automatically improve your posture whilst also working on your core strength. It’s a mini form of exercise before you have even got to the gym in the evening!
In terms of your mental health, you need to try to make your office space as calm and organised as possible. Being neat and tidy is obviously the first step, but you can also do things like use lavender and eucalyptus scents to encourage a more relaxed and peaceful environment. If you’re feeling really fancy, you can even add a few crystals for both aesthetic pleasure and their believed metaphysical and physical benefits!
5 Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is one of the biggest problems for office workers all over the world. When you are at a desk trying to concentrate on getting your projects completed, the thought of drinking regular sips of water just doesn’t come into play. Set a reminder on your phone to have a nice glass of water every half an hour or so, and you will definitely feel the benefits in terms of attention span and motivation to keep going.
