1

Smoking

It goes without saying that smoking is bad for your health. However, did you know that according to the American Heart Association, smoking is one of the biggest contributors to women’s heart disease? If you smoke, take the first step to prevent heart disease by quitting now.

2

Move It

You can replace your bad smoking habit with a new good habit. Try getting active. Even as little as 30 minutes a day can have a huge impact on your health and any risk factors against heart disease. Start by going for a 30 minute walk every day. Slowly increase your time and speed.

3

Food

Yes, the right foods are another step to prevent heart disease. You want to follow a heart healthy diet to decrease your risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. What can you eat? Try loading your diet with fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein, dairy, nuts, and healthy fats. Stay away from saturated fats and highly processed foods. Those things may taste wonderful but they are killing your heart.

4

Stress

Are you feeling stressed? Lowering the stress in your life is a step to prevent heart disease. Exercise is one way to lower stress. If you are already committed to adding exercise to your daily routine, you will be decreasing your risk against heart disease in two ways. You can also learn to manage stress through meditation.

5

Drinking

We all know that a glass of wine can improve heart health, but too much is a bad thing. If you are a heavy drinker, don’t think you are doing your heart any favors by getting tanked regularly. If you must drink, take this step to prevent heart disease and limit yourself to one alcoholic beverage a day.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Cholesterol

Do you know what your cholesterol level is? If not, then you really don’t have a clear idea of the health of your heart. Do yourself a favor and get your cholesterol level checked. After you know where you stand, take the necessary steps to improve your cholesterol. Many of the steps to prevent heart disease will also lower cholesterol.

7

Blood Pressure

Having high blood pressure puts you at a dangerous risk for having a stroke. You can lower your blood pressure by limiting sodium in your diet. Just like with lowering cholesterol, many of the steps to prevent heart disease, like quitting smoking, more exercise, and managing stress, will help lower high blood pressure too.

I hope you take these steps to prevent heart disease seriously. Like I said, heart disease is the number one killer of women. We may not be able to completely eliminate heart disease but we can take active steps to prevent heart disease in our lives. The sooner you start living healthy, the less likely you are to suffer from complicated health problems. What are some steps you are taking to actively lower your heart disease risk?
