7 Supplements for Good Health ...

By Heather

Eating a healthy diet and exercising are two important cornerstones of physical health but there are also some supplements for good health you may want to look into as well. This is especially important if you’re at childbearing age, going through menopause, or don’t eat a well-rounded diet. Certain supplements for good health can help support the immune system, skeletal system, digestive system, and nervous system. Just remember to always let your medical care specialist know what you’re taking so you can work with them to obtain optimal health.

1

A Food-Based Multi

You can visit any drug store and pick up a multivitamin but those gummy options or fun, flavored chewables aren’t the best supplements for good health. You want to look for a food-based multivitamin, not one made from synthetic materials. After all, don’t you think your body would more easily recognize real vitamins than fake vitamins? Go with products like those from Garden of Life, Sunwarrior, Rainbow Light, or some varieties of Now Foods brand.

2

Vitamin D

As women age, calcium can leach from the bones which contributes to osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Vitamin D aids in calcium absorption, so it’s important to supplement with at least 400 IU or more. Vitamin D has also been linked to colon cancer prevention, depression prevention, and overall good digestive health.

3

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is commonly taken when the sniffles start to appear but it’s not a bad idea to take it year round, especially if you have allergies. Vitamin C helps support the immune system to ward off disease and infection. It can also help relieve inflammation post-exercise and decrease overall stress. Opt for a food-based source like camu camu berry extract or consume a food-based supplement like those made with amla berries and grapefruit extract.

4

Magnesium

Magnesium is now being thought of as the wonder nutrient, and there’s a good reason for that. It supports bone health, nervous system function, aids in regularity, can help you get a good night’s rest, and improves your mood. Magnesium is also one of the first minerals to be depleted from the body during stress, so supplementing can help ensure you get enough. If you suffer from general anxiety, magnesium can be a great supplement to help you relax.

5

Omega 3s

Omega 3 fatty acids help prevent inflammation, reduce risk of heart disease, relieve depression, and support hormone function. Opt for plant-based sources when possible like those from algae or algae oil, walnuts, flax, chia, and hemp. Since some fish contains neurotoxins and toxins, avoiding it is overall the best idea.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Probiotic

A probiotic is another cornerstone of good health in terms of supplemental care. Probiotics help ensure gut bacteria levels stay healthy, which is important for immune, digestive, and mood functions. Recent studies have even linked healthy gut flora (bacteria) to lower weight and rates of obesity. You’ll want to look with one with several strains, especially acidophilus and a bifido (bifidus) culture. Probiotics also help treat IBS and digestive symptoms like pain, gas, bloating, constipation, or general GI stress by assisting in nutrient absorption and the breakdown of food. Renew Life and Garden of Life are both great brands.

7

Digestive Enzymes

For whatever reason, many people aren’t properly digesting their food, whether it be from stress, multi-tasking, not chewing their food adequately, or another health issue such as a digestive problem. Digestive enzymes help break down the food into nutrients and assist in nutrient absorption. If you’re tired and always hungry, you might not be absorbing the nutrients from foods you’re eating or not eating a well-balanced diet. Opt for enzyme-rich foods like raw fruits and vegetables and try a supplement for more support.

These supplements for good health will give you an awesome foundation to feel your best self. Just remember that eating is always your best ally in terms of being healthy no matter what else you do. Do you take any of these supplements for good health?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I just started taking probiotics & plan to pick up magnesium at the store tomorrow. I take a multi, vitamin e, calcium, and a red pill for skin, hair and nails (forgot the name).

good article but instead of supplements, how about herbs for a good health, helping conditions, illnesses etc.

This is great, just what I am looking for! I can't wait to try these! :)
