Unlike the diamond on your engagement ring, breast implants need to be replaced. When people say that nothing lasts forever in this word, this includes your breast implants. Keep in mind that any foreign material in the body has a reason to be replaced. Here are some things you need to know about breast implant replacement!
1 Are You Experiencing an Implant Deflation?
This is the most common reason for breast implant replacement. Saline implants can leak or rupture. This can be a distressing situation and therefore, an implant replacement should be done as soon as possible. The treatment is simple. All you have to do is remove the deflated implant and replace it with a new one of the same size, shape and volume.
2 Does Your MRI or X-ray Show That Your Silicone Shell Has an Evidence of Leak?
Just as with the saline implant, silicone shell implants may also need replacement if they show signs of leakage or damage. Contact your surgeon right away and he/she'll do the needful.
3 Do You Have the Desire to Change Your Implants?
There are only two things that you need to consider with regard to breast implant replacements. One, if the implant is damaged and your surgeon suggests replacement. And two, you are no longer happy with the implants that you have. Maybe you want to go bigger or smaller. Either way, this is where breast implant replacement surgery comes in.
4 Are You Experiencing a Capsular Contracture?
This is referred to as the tightening of the scar tissue around the implant. Keep in mind that this situation may lead to trauma or bleeding or even an infection, contact your surgeon immediately for a replacement.
5 Has Your Breast Implant Shifted Its Position?
Consider it an implant malposition or symmetry issues. If your implants do not have the same appearance, you will need to get them corrected.
6 Did Your Breast Tissue Change Its Shape and Volume when You Lost/gained Weight?
This is no longer uncommon for patients who have undergone breast augmentation. Whenever you have gained or lost a few pounds, your breast tissue most likely will begin to change its shape and volume. Not to mention, post pregnancy can contribute to changes to your breasts as well. Either way, this is an important reason to consider breast implant replacement.
7 Do You Have Any Complications from the Breast Implant Augmentation Surgery?
Lastly, this is a common reason for a patient to undergo breast implant replacement. No matter how much you are prepared for the surgery, there are still chances for complications to occur after the surgery is completed. It may be instant or it may take a while to manifest itself. Either way, whenever you sense signs of any complications, contact your physician immediately.
