1. Hat

Anytime you are running outside a hat is pretty important. It will keep your hair out of your face and also keep the sun from damaging your skin and hair. Find a hat that fits well and will stay on as you pick up speed. I like to run in an old baseball cap... but you'll have to experiment to see what sort of hat works best for you.

2. Sunglasses

Another key piece of running apparel is sunglasses. We all know how important it is to protect our eyes from the sun. Don’t forget them when you head out for a run. You will definitely wish you had them when the sun is shining directly in your face. Again, experiment a little to see which sorts of sunglasses work best for your run.

3. Sunblock

I bet you probably expected my next suggestion for how to dress for a run would be sunscreen. It’s not something that most people think about, especially if you only plan to be out running for a short amount a time. Sun protection is important and even more important if you are going to be out running on a regular basis. Apply a generous amount of broad-spectrum SPF 30 before your run, and keep your skin happy and healthy!

4. Proper Shoes

You can choose to run in any old pair of shoes if you want, but your feet would appreciate a good pair of running shoes. Your local sports store should have a wide variety of shoes made just for running. Try a couple out and find a pair that feels right for you. While you're at it, make sure you're wearing the right socks, too.

What you choose to wear while working out can have a significant impact on your comfort and performance. One essential item is the sports bra. Lack of proper support can lead to discomfort and muscle tissue damage. Choosing a good sports bra can help prevent these problems and ensure a great workout!

5. Sports Bra

If you have ever wondered how to dress for a run, I’m sure you have thought about having a good sports bra. The truth is running can sometimes be uncomfortable for us girls, and even more uncomfortable for us girls with a large bust. Check out a few sports bras. Try to find one that offers good support and controls movement.

6. Nylon Shorts

Light weight fabric is important when running. You don’t want to feel restricted by your clothing. Most runners prefer to wear nylon shorts. The material is perfect and very comfortable. Some have built-in underwear, but others don't... pay attention, and make sure you wear undies if they're not included in your shorts.

7. Moisture Wicking Fabric

Another thing to think about when learning how to dress for a run is moisture wicking fabric. This is most important in shirts and your sports bra. You want fabric that will pull the sweat away from your body as you run.

8. MP3 Player

Maybe an MP3 player isn’t necessarily something you wear on a run, but it’s one of my favorite things to have with me on my runs. I wear my MP3 player in an arm band. The music keeps me going and pushes me through.

Now you know how to dress for a run. It’s really very simple. You need a few key pieces of clothing, proper sun protection and your favorite tunes. What are some how to dress for a run tips you may have for first timers? Please share!
