Eating well is essential if you want to be healthy. Of course, nobody´s perfect, and we all enjoy some treats, so a good principle to follow is the 80/20 rule. Make sure that at least 80% of your diet is healthy, with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and then that 20% can be foods that are not so good for you, but fun to eat.
Except for sporty readers (or those with small kids to keep them active), most of us could probably do with incorporating more activity into our routine. If you commute to work, have a sedentary job and then spend your leisure time sitting down, you need to find ways to be healthier. Moderate activity such as cycling or walking will do that, and don´t need to take up too much time.
Activity is essential to be healthy, but don´t forget the opposite side of the coin. Relaxation is equally important, when we lead busy and stressful lives. Devote a small part of your free time to relaxing with a book, meditating or enjoying a gentle stroll in a park.

You don´t have to be bursting with optimism, but do try to cultivate a generally positive way of viewing life. Accept that sometimes things go wrong, and they can become easier to deal with, which is good for your health.

Another of the top ways to keep healthy is to get enough sleep. This is essential for the body to repair itself, and for our brains to have a rest. Make sure you get as much sleep as you need. If you have small kids and are short on sleep, try to nap during the day when they do.
8. People Power
An often overlooked facet of staying healthy is the contribution that other people make to our lives. We need friends, family and affection around us. People who have a circle of close friends are known to be healthier, as we are social creatures and need the support of others.
There are lots of ways to be healthier aside from the obvious. We all need to look after our own health and well-being, and that takes a little bit of effort.
