As the colder months drag on, we become desperate to find ways to feel healthier every day, both physically and mentally. We’re sick of being stuck in the house all the time. We’re sick of the dreariness that comes along with the cold weather. Rather than focusing on those depressing aspects of winter, try sticking to these ways to feel healthier every day to pull you out of the funk that often comes along with cold weather.
1. Find a Routine
One of the easiest ways to feel healthier every day, both physically and mentally, is to find a routine and stick to it. Routines provide structure in our lives and have been found to alleviate stress. Sometimes in the midst of chaos, all you need is a routine to stick to!
2. Try Clean Eating
Though it may not seem like the most fun option, clean eating is a great way to feel healthier and better. Clean eating helps you feel better from the inside out. The next time you want to reach for the salty or crunchy snacks, try raw fruits and vegetables instead. Your body will thank you for it!
It’s so simple yet so important. Try laughing. Even if you feel like you have nothing to laugh about, find something. Find a new sitcom to love or maybe spend a night with your best friends. Laughing is good for your mental wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing.
4. Get Some Exercise
It can be something as simple as a half hour walk or something as vigorous as an hour-long spin class, but do something that gets your heart racing. Obviously cardio is good for your physical health, but it also makes you happier on a daily basis.
5. Do Frivolous Things
Do something frivolous that you really love. Maybe you love to get manicures or maybe you love to go to the movies. In the wise words of Parks and Recreation, “treat yourself!” Sometimes all it takes to feel mentally healthier is a little bit of treating yourself; so don’t talk yourself out of a little TLC because it seems frivolous!
6. Find New Music
Music can seriously affect your mood. If you listen to sad, depressing music, obviously you won’t feel better. If you’re listening to happier, upbeat music, a better mood will follow. Find a few new happy songs that you absolutely love and you will feel so much better.
7. Get Your Vitamins
Vitamins can actually seriously affect both your physical and mental wellbeing. If you’re not getting enough Vitamin D, in the winter especially, you may notice that you’re in a sadder mood than usual. Try taking a multivitamin everyday to ensure that you’re getting the vitamins your body needs!
8. Experience the World
I don’t mean travel, although I’m sure that travel would also make most people feel better. Try to experience our natural world on a daily basis. Try going for a hike, or maybe visit a nearby lake. No matter where you live there is probably a naturally beautiful place that you can make your own. Experiencing nature will undoubtedly bring you peace and happiness.
9. Focus on Now
It can be so easy to spend a lot of time worrying about the future. Don’t. Focus on what’s happening right now. Whatever happens in the future will happen, so don’t spend all of your time worrying about it. It’s not worth it. Enjoy now and you will feel so much happier and healthier on a daily basis.
