1

Meditate

Meditation is one of those things which has transformed my life and way of thinking. You can really open your eyes to the world and put things into perspective. Meditation makes you 'slow down,' not to the point of laziness but to the point of being productive and purposeful in all you do. Try to sit for ten to fifteen minutes a day, observing the breath and being in the present moment. This is one of the most amazing ways to prevent burnout.

2

Get Away

Holidays are essential for the body and mind, and you should try to get away at least once a year. It doesn't have to be an expensive holiday and there are so many ways to holiday on a budget. Try to get away from the city and experience nature for a few days, as that will make you feel calm and centred when you return and get back to work.

3

Techno-detox

Technology is great and it has meant that we can accomplish so many more things in a shorter space. The problem is, we can now accomplish so many more things in a shorter space of time! It's difficult to say whether our lives are more stressful than thirty years ago but I'm sure that the advances in technology have meant that people feel obligated to remain 'online' 24 hours a day and to accomplish as much as they possibly can. How many times have you seen a couple sitting down to coffee together but not truly being together because they're both looking at their phones? Or a group of friends out to lunch but not conversing because they're all Tweeting, Instagramming, Facebooking or doing other types of 'virtual' social networking when they have the opportunity to do some actual social networking with the people right in front of them? Try to streamline your online use and also ensure that you don't check emails or social network sites right before you go to sleep, as this is certain to prevent you from sleeping soundly.

4

Exercise

Exercise is so important for both body and mind. It releases stress and makes you happy. Whether you like going to the gym, having a swim, going for a run or a cycle, regular exercise will make you feel great and look amazing.

5

Eat Well

That old adage 'You are what you eat' is so true, and the food you put in your body will be the fuel that helps your body run tomorrow. Make sure that it's good fuel though, full of nutrients and low in bad fats and sugars.

Socialise

Socialising is so important and although people may think they're constantly socialising with their hundreds of 'friends' on their social networking sites, there's nothing quite like picking up the phone and having a chat with a friend or having a coffee date with friends. And be sure to make it a no-phone coffee date, where you're in the present moment and enjoying each other's company.

Team Sports

I have mentioned exercise but this is another one of the great ways to prevent burnout. Join a club like rowing or tennis, or a team such as netball or hockey. This will combine socialising with exercising so you will be able to kill two proverbial feathered creatures with one piece of masonry!

These are just a few ways to prevent burnout before you're 35. Do you have any other hints and tips?

That model looks burned out. What's with that??

I'm 35 and so ready to retire! I do travel as often as I can; I work out; eat healthy..but I'm sorry, age isn't just a number. Our bodies get to the point where no matter what we do, we don't have the energy or drive that we used to have. Just my opinion.

I'm with thelma completely here as a 34 year old! I think you have to sometimes do nothing to recharge.

I tried out meditating on the floor the other day and it only lasted for a couple of minutes :S felt ok at first but of course my brain intervenes with overthinking as usual.. Sighh

The model for this article looks sick
