1

Change Your Sleep Pattern

Getting enough sleep is one of the best easy ways to incorporate Ayurveda into your life. Rather than sleeping in late and retiring to bed past midnight, you should instead work on waking up a little earlier and going to bed a little earlier, as this routine is much more positive for your body and your mind. Ayurveda teaches you to wake with the sun and go to sleep when it sets, and whilst this isn’t practical for a normal working day, you should be striving to get as close to it as your personal routine allows.

2

Massage

Get into the habit of giving yourself a massage on a daily basis. Obviously, we’re not talking a big full body bonanza because that isn’t feasible, but you can do things like lathering your body in products like coconut oil or sesame oil from head to toe, hopping in the shower and really massaging all of that goodness into your skin. The hot water enables the oils to penetrate transdermally for even greater effect.

3

Hydration

Staying hydrated is one of the key principals of Ayurveda because it benefits you just as much mentally as it does physically. When we sleep, we lose water through our skin and through exhalation, so it is vital that we readdress this balance in our waking hours. Fending off dehydration is key to keeping bad moods at bay, preventing low energy and also easing the everyday frustrations that come along with the modern world.

4

Home Cooking

Rather than getting take out more days of the week than not, you should really be aiming to cook your own food at home, using fresh ingredients that you know haven’t been altered with additives and e-numbers. Things like fresh fruit and vegetables and the array of seasonal ingredients that you can find at your local markets are all wonderful for maintaining a healthy diet, and not only are you treating your body well by doing this, you are also expanding your mind in the form of learning how to cook new dishes and putting basic cookery skills into practice.

5

Breathe

Ayurveda is very much rooted in mindfulness, which is the idea that nothing has more power to transform and heal your body than your own mind. Always remember to take time out of your day to practice a little meditation. Just simple breathing exercises can help to re-ground you after a hectic day at work.
