1. Swimming
Many cardiovascular exercises are good at not just burning fat but also building muscle. Swimming is one of these activities. When you swim your work your arms and legs and constantly engage your core. If you are looking for a way to build muscle give swimming laps a try.

Running is another excellent way to build muscle, especially leg muscles. Try an incline or running up hill to build even more muscle.

I would have never thought about dancing as a way to build muscle but it really can. Think of some of your favorite dance moves. Hip-hop dance does a lot to work your thighs when you drop down low and bring it back up. Many Latin dance moves have you keep your arms held up high working your shoulders and biceps. Of course belly dancing is going to do wonders for your stomach.

Pilates is similar to yoga in that it really engages the different muscles of the body. It is a great way to build muscle and can be very fun. Find a class in your area and give it a try if you haven’t already.

6. Circuit Training
Circuit training mixes cardio and different muscle building exercises together. Often times the workouts are quick to get your heart rate up and keep it up. In some moves you work small muscles with larger muscle groups to really get a full workout in limited time.
7. Weight Training
I already said that lifting weights at the gym can be a little daunting, but if you can get a few friends together, or try going during a time when less people are at the gym it can be good. Weight training is an excellent way to build muscle and shouldn’t be ruled out.

Sometimes we just need to work out at home. Many moms find this more convenient. You can pop in your favorite DVD while the kids are asleep or at school and get your sweat on.
9. Yogalates
This is one I must admit I haven’t tried yet, but I am very interested. If Pilates and yoga both do wonders to build muscles than a combination of the two has to be even better, right?
