By Holly7 Comments

Thank goodness there are some great home remedies for mosquito bites, because we all know just how annoying they can be, particularly if it’s night time and you’re trying to sleep! Just try out these simple tricks and your bite should itch no more! These home remedies for mosquito bites use things that you’ll probably have in your house already, so there’s no need to go out and buy ointments!

1 Banana Peel

This is just one of the many home remedies for mosquito bites that you’ll be able to do using what’s already sitting around your house! After you’ve chowed down a yummy banana, just rub the inside of the peel on your skin where the bite is. The itch will be relieved instantly! Plus you’ll smell delicious - bonus!

Frequently asked questions

2 Baking Soda and Water

Mix up a thick paste of baking soda and water and smooth it over the bite, making an area slightly larger than the bite itself. Let the paste dry, then rinse it off after about 10 minutes or so. If you add your favourite essential oil to the paste, then it’ll also smell great and sooth your skin as well as stopping the itch.

3 Hot Spoon

A quick, simple way to stop a mosquito bite from itching is to hold a spoon under a hot tap until it’s very warm (but not hot enough to burn you!), then hold it to the bite for about a minute. The heat apparently helps to break down the proteins in the bite that cause the itching, therefore soothing your skin and stopping the pain.

4 Epsom Salts

Who doesn’t love an excuse to have a long, hot bath!? This home remedy is especially handy if you have multiple mosquito bites - just run a hot bath and add plenty of Epsom salts. Relax and have a glorious soak, and when you get out the bites won’t itch anymore. Yay!

5 Tea

After you’ve made yourself a cup of black or green tea, cool the teabag or tea leaves off (if you’re using tea leaves, make a pouch out of paper towel to hold them in) and press them to your mosquito bites. The tea reacts with the bite, cooling the area down and stopping that painful itching! Plus it gives you a great reason to make yourself up a pot of tea.

6 Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is great for so many things - boosting your metabolism, soothing a cold, making your hair shiny and stopping your mosquito bites from itching! Just soak a cotton wool ball or a cotton swab in apple cider vinegar, then wipe it all over the mosquito bite, going slightly further than the bite itself. Voila! No more itchiness.

7 Scotch Tape

This probably sounds very strange, but next time you have an itchy mosquito bite, just cover it with a piece of scotch tape. Not only will the glue ease the itching, but it will also prevent you from rubbing or scratching it, which will only make it worse and create a scab.

I can’t wait to hear how you get on with these mosquito bite home remedies! There is nothing worse than getting a painful bite, and it always seems to happen at the most inconvenient times! Hopefully these can help you. If you have a mosquito bite, what do you use to stop it from itching?
