Take Time to Learn

When beginning to meditate, do so for a small amount of time, and then build yourself up to meditating longer. “Do formal daily practice of meditation (such as walking meditation) for an initial period, and then start just incorporating meditation into your day in informal ways,” Psychology Today says. Finding the type of meditation which works best for you is the best of the many meditation tips for beginners.

2

Focus Your Thoughts

Daily Burn explains that when beginning to meditate “choose any object of awareness (a sound, an image, a mantra) to rest your attention on, and gently return it to whenever your mind wanders.” By focusing on one thing, you can drown out all of the other noise and stresses that are taking a hold on you.

Psychology Today explains that a “useful goal for meditation beginners is being able to redirect your attention back to your point of focus without criticizing yourself.”

3

Think about How You Are Feeling

Another factor to consider when meditating is to think about your state of mind. Zen Habits explains you can consider different factors including “How does your body feel?” and “What is the quality of your mind?” By tuning into your physical and emotional needs you will better understand your body and how to relax yourself. Many yoga sessions now incorporate meditation into the class.

4

Watch Your Breathing Technique

You can connect your mind with your body through breathing.
Understanding your breathing pattern will help you when meditating. “Close your eyes and connect with your breath by focusing on your breathing without trying to direct it; just pay attention to its natural movement,” Daily Burn explains.

5

Continue to Meditate

Zen Habits urges, “Really commit yourself. In your mind, be locked in, for at least a month.” The more you practice meditation, the more you will understand how your mind and body work. Over time “you’ll begin to become hyperaware of the state of your body—the tensions it carries, its energy, its pain—and sensations that your busy life may have kept you from noticing previously,” Psychology Today explains.

Relax, breathe, and clear your mind.
