1

Oxytocin

One reason to cuddle more is to release the hormone oxytocin. Known as the “feel good” hormone, secretion of this builds connection to your partner and establishes comfort in your body. Regular release of oxytocin can build that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you see someone. So why not cuddle? It’ll make you feel good! Literally.

2

Touch

As humans, we all crave touch. Babies need to be nurtured and if they aren’t cuddled enough, they can actually die of failure to thrive. It’s intrinsic to who we are as humans. I know that when I’m cuddling I feel safe and cared for. When you’re having a bad day, you may want a hug to make you feel better. Regular cuddling has a similar effect, which I think is definitely a reason to add it to your routine.

3

Unconditional

You don’t just need to cuddle with your significant other or children. Consider cuddling with your favorite stuffed animal or your pet. The benefits of cuddling include feeling connected to something else and strengthening your empathy levels. When I watch a movie, I like to cuddle with my stuffed giraffe Sheldon. It’s a nice way for me to unwind and still reap the benefits of oxytocin release.

4

Reduces Stress and Blood Pressure

If you’re overwhelmed or suffer from high blood pressure, it’s time to add cuddling into your day. Once again, oxytocin release comes in to play as you begin to connect with others and thus lower your stress levels with the “feel good” effect this hormone creates. In turn, it can lower your blood pressure because of the chemical reaction of bonding that oxytocin causes.

5

Increase Sexual Desire

Cuddling can be a great way to increase your sexual activity. Sex not only burns calories but also releases dopamine into your system, connects you with your partner, strengthens your immune system and allows you to sleep deeper. To reap these benefits, you may find cuddling as the starting gate. Both cuddling and sex improve your mood so it’s time to snuggle up!

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Lowers Risk for Heart Disease

Yes, you read that right. Cuddling lowers your risk for heart disease. The oxytocin released while cuddling helps improve your immune system and prevent diseases. By lowering your blood pressure, cuddling directly affects your heart’s health. Cool, right? It’s not only fun but it’s healthy for you too!

Quality Time

While cuddling, you get some quality time with the people you love. It may be your kids to remind them how much you care for them or your partner. Talking while cuddling provides a great way to spend time with one another and communicate rather than make small talk. You can cuddle with pets to remind them that though you are gone at work during the day, you still care very much about them.

Cuddling is absolutely amazing. Adding 10-15 minutes a day of cuddling has such remarkable benefits that it’s almost too good to give up. What are some other benefits of cuddling?
