1. Wear the Right Sunscreen

It is important to wear the right sunscreen. There are several different factors to consider as far as what is the right sunscreen for you. Most dermatologists recommend that you wear a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or higher. It is also important to look for a sunscreen that is water resistant if you are going to be in the water. Otherwise, you will not have sufficient coverage. Wearing the right sunscreen is one of the sun safety tips you should be sure to follow.

2. Wear Enough Sunscreen

Not only do you need to make sure that you are wearing the right sunscreen for you but you should also make sure you are wearing enough sunscreen. Many of us tend to skimp on the amount of sunscreen we wear. The average adult will need about an ounce of sunscreen to cover their whole body. This is also equal to one-eighth of a cup. Additionally, you need to be sure to reapply sunscreen at least every two hours.

3. Use a Wide Brimmed Hat

A wide-brimmed hat can be your best friend when you are spending time in the sun. It blocks the sun’s rays from your face. However, it should never be used in place of sunscreen but in combination with it. Thankfully, as people are learning more about sun safety tips, wearing a wide brimmed hat has become very fashionable. There are many colors and styles that you can choose from.

4. Avoid the Sun when It is Strongest

It is best to avoid the sun when it is at its strongest. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, this is between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. At the very least, try to avoid it between noon and 2 p.m. when it is at the very strongest. Following this tip alone will not give you the protection that you need. All of these tips are meant to be followed in combination with each other for the best sun protection.

5. Wear Sunglasses with UV Protection

It is important to wear sunglasses with UV protection. This will protect your eyes. Additionally, the frame of your sunglasses will help to offer protection, too. The skin around your eyes is thin and particularly at risk for sun damage such as age spots and wrinkles. Choosing a pair of oversized sunglasses can help protect you from that.

6. Use an Umbrella

An umbrella can be very helpful in offering protection from the sun. They are traditionally seen at the beach. However, people are beginning to use them in many other places, too. They can be used at the pool, over your patio furniture or in other situations. I have even seen lawn chairs that have an umbrella attached to them.

7. Visit Your Dermatologist Annually

It is a good decision to see your dermatologist annually. They can look over your body and give you a full skin check. This makes sure that you catch anything that looks abnormal in a very early stage. Additionally, you should be keeping an eye on your skin in between your yearly appointments. If you see anything weird pop up, give your doctor a call to get in sooner.

These are some important sun safety tips that you can follow. What do you do to stay safe in the sun? I would love to read your comments on this subject.
