Every girl wants some ways to make your period more bearable. For a few days a month, life sucks. Some of the lucky ones can continue to go about their daily lives almost as normal, but it’s an awful period for most of us (pun intended!). From bloating to mood swings; here are some ways to make your period more bearable.
1. Be Prepared
Being prepared makes nearly everything better and easier to deal with! Try and keep a calendar so you have at least a vague idea when the dreaded week approaches. Stock up on sanitary items, chocolate, and heat pads. Your future self will thank you. Being prepared is definitely one of the best ways to make your period more bearable.
2. Avoid Caffeine
Caffeine gets most of us through the day, but caffeine can actually irritate your stomach and make cramps worse (science!). Perhaps try and limit your intake if you find your cramps are particularly bad.

3. Wear Comfy Clothes
Skin-tight jeans are never comfy, even if they look amazing! Feeling bloated is a common occurrence during your period, so perhaps stick to looser clothing or even PJs around the house. You’ll feel much better!
4. Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated seems to be a magical cure-all. Whatever your problem, staying hydrated can help. Drink more water and it may help relieve that feeling of bloating during your period.
5. Consider Light Exercise
Yes, most of us hate exercise. In reality, light exercise causes the release of endorphins which can make you feel better.

6. Hot Water Bottle
Whether a hot water bottle or a heat pack, curling up with something warm will help relieve the cramps. The heat actually causes the muscles to relax! Try a hot water bottle or even a heat patch if you’re short on time.
7. Take a Bath
I think we all secretly enjoy a bubble bath! Not only will it help you relax, the heat can relieve cramps. Light some candles and relax – you deserve it.
8. Take Some Me-time
Mood swings are another common occurrence that can have your significant other running for the hills. As an adult, they should recognise what you’re going through. Regardless, if you’re feeling particularly snappy this month, maybe take some time for yourself. Cuddle up in bed and binge watch that Netflix show.
9. Painkillers!
Modern medicine is amazing, and so many of us take it for granted. If you’re in pain, pop a painkiller! Paracetamol or ibuprofen will help relieve the worst of the cramps and make the whole thing a lot more bearable.
10. Sleep It off
If all else fails – sleep it off! Sleep has amazing healing properties, and we’re all more tired during our periods anyway. Even if you don’t typically nap, or think you’re way to busy, you’ll feel better for it.
11. Don’t Be Ashamed!
For some reason, people are ashamed of getting their periods. Most of us won’t talk about it, even though around 50% of the adult population know exactly what you’re going through. Remember, it’s perfectly natural.
