7 Things That Affect Your Sex Drive ...

Most people start out with healthy sex drives but at times can experience a drop in sexual activity. Sex drive is considered to be full of ups and downs so if you’re going through a down, you can feel reassured knowing you are not alone. There are a number of factors that can bring this on and here are 7 of them.

1. Alcohol

It is known that a couple of drinks can bring down your inhibitions however relying on it as a crutch will ultimately affect your libido in the long run. It can also affect your relationship with your partner.

2. Too Much Responsibility

Growing up certainly is hard to do. When we’re young and the only thing we have to worry about is getting to school on time or looking cool, our libidos are at an all time high. When we become adults, the responsibilities of looking after the family, children, home and work all play a part in our sex drive decrease.

3. Body Image

People who have a low body image sometimes experience a drop in sex drive. Very often women who have put on a lot of weight have no inclination of getting naked with their partner even though their partner isn’t bothered by it. Alternatively there are people who lose their sex drive because they find their partner is no longer looking after their body.

4. New Baby

When a new baby enters the scene, a variety of changes occur between a normal couple. The new mother can very often feel like less of woman and lose interest in her appearance and sex. The new father could also start viewing his partner as no longer a sexual companion but rather a mother figure. Both can experience drops in sex drive.

5. Familiarity with the Partner

Boredom definitely breeds discontent. As couples spend more time with each other, the familiarity of sex can be a major buzz kill. Couples may find that the reasons they found each other sexy at first are now boring and unappealing. The only way to counter this is to keep trying to change things around. Go out for romantic getaways, date nights and even try out different approaches to sex.

6. Lack of Sleep

Lack of sleep can certainly kill the libido of a normal human being. When you’re exhausted from a day’s work and insomnia, the last thing on your mind is sex. If the fatigue continues, it is not only unhealthy for you as a lifestyle, it will continue to affect your sex life. So get to the root of the problem and fast.

7. Past Infidelity

Past infidelity to a partner can affect the sex drives of both parties substantially. The wronged one can experience feelings of betrayal and anger towards the other for committing such an offense and consequently have little or no libido. The wrong one can find a decrease in attraction to the partner after tasting of forbidden fruit. Counseling may be the only recourse for such couples.

If you are going through a drop in sex drive then check if any of the above factors applies to you. It’s a good idea to start taking steps to rectify the problem immediately. Very often the problem won’t go away by itself.
