Antioxidants are all the rage right now. Everyone's talking about the benefits of them, and how they're good for you. It's true, they are good for you. But how? Here's some facts about antioxidants you may not have known!

1. They Keep You Young!

Antioxidants help prevent a lot of issues we associate with old age. Through the natural body process of "cellular metabolism" in which the body replenishes old, damaged cells, "free radicals" are created, which are damaging to your body. I know, crazy right? The results are wrinkles, brittle bones, arthritis, etc. Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals that wreak such havoc on the human body, therefore slowing down the aging process! That's reason enough for me to love antioxidants! But there's more!

2. They Boost Your Immune System!

That's right! Less sickness! This is one of the first signs of the benefits of antioxidants in your body that you will see. You will be better equipped to fight off colds and general infections, and you'll feel better!

3. They're Good for the Bodybuilder!

If your hubby or son is into bodybuilding, you may want to introduce them to the fine powers of antioxidants. No, they're not some super muscle builder, but antioxidants to aid in the bodybuilding process. They improve the body's natural process of repairing the torn muscles. The muscles repair more quickly, which makes bodybuilding more time efficient!

4. Antioxidants Are Actually Some Vitamins!

Bet you didn't know this! The vitamins A, C, and E are actually antioxidants too! So, if you've been regularly taking your vitamins, you've already been receiving some benefits of antioxidant power! It makes sense when you remember that Vitamin C is well known as a form of an immune system builder!

Many believe that antioxidants are only found in fruits and veggies, but this simply isn't true! As you read above, antioxidants are in vitamins A, C, and E, and can also be found in foods such as beans, nuts, seeds and grains! Among the foods richest in antioxidant power are berries, broccoli, garlic, whole grains, red grapes, and tea!

7. They're Great for Your Skin!

Antioxidants help your body to produce collagen which minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. They also aid rosacea-prone skin! Antioxidants work with your regular skin care routine from the inside for a better looking you! It's also said that they work best for your skin when applied topically!

8. Antioxidants Help Prevent Skin Cancer

Antioxidants aid in protecting your skin from harmful UV rays that damage your skin and cause skin cancer. Paired with a good sunscreen, you'll be good to go! The prevention of skin cancer also goes back to what we discussed earlier, when talking about getting rid of free radicals in your body!
