1. Alkaline

The most unique of all benefits of hemp seeds is it is one of the only highly alkaline seeds. Pumpkin seeds are also highly alkaline, but nothing like hemp seeds. Hemp seeds contain more chlorophyll than any other seed. This makes them great for relieving inflammation and detoxifying and purifying the blood.

2. Digestive Health

Hemp seeds are rich in fiber, which makes them great for preventing constipation or slow digestion. This is essential for detox since your colon is one of the most important body parts to care for. Another reason hemp seeds are great is they are the easiest of all seeds to digest and don’t give problems to people who usually don’t tolerate seeds.

Frequently asked questions

3. Tasty

Let’s be honest, so many health foods just don’t taste that good, but one of the main benefits of hemp seeds is they’re delicious! This is due to their slightly sweet, nutty taste, and I like them on top of smoothies and yogurt. They’re not too sweet though, so don’t worry. They can also be used in vegan versions of stuffed mushrooms, as a salad dressing base with water for a creamy dressing, or used in other savory dishes. Hemp tastes mild, but very good, just trust me!

4. Protein

Protein is essential to your body. For one, when you’re detoxing and eating clean, your body needs healthy sources of protein to keep your immune system working well, and your energy levels up. Not to mention, your metabolism’s best friend is lean protein! Hemp is rich in all essential amino acids which make it a complete protein, unlike most vegan sources.

5. Magnesium

Magnesium is one of the most important minerals for your health. When conventional farming took over our country, this important mineral found in the soil was destroyed by chemicals and fertilizers. Most people are deficient in this one mineral and have no idea. A shortage can cause issues like slow digestion, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, low energy, muscle pain, low thyroid function, and even headaches. Magnesium is a top mineral for all PMS symptoms as well. Luckily, hemp contains 45% of your daily values in an easy to absorb form, just in three tablespoons!

6. B Vitamins

We all know how important B vitamins are. This one group of vitamins is important for our hair, skin, nails, energy, and even our digestion. Luckily, hemp has a nice variety of all B vitamins. It isn’t a high source of B12, though so be sure to use a supplement or take spirulina if you’re vegan.

7. Anti-depressant

Hemp is a huge mood-booster! I find it works for any low mood I have, and is really great to beat PMS symptoms. Due to their magnesium, protein and omega 3 content, hemp seeds will help squash any bad mood you have.

8. Potassium

Potassium is your best friend if you suffer bloating. It’s also an important electrolyte in your body. Hemp seeds are rich in potassium, as most nuts and seeds are. Potassium helps beat bloating, muscles pain, cramps, and can help relieve detox headaches.

9. Omega Fats

As I mentioned, hemp contains omega 3 fats, but also some omega 6 and omega 9 fats. We often hear bad things about omega 6 and omega 9 fats, but from plant sources in reasonable doses, they’re actually wonderful for you. Omega 3 fats are well known for their heart, metabolism, and mood boosting benefits. Omega 6 and 9 are important for these as well. Hemp is a perfect ratio of all three omega fats, which makes it the perfect food to get your recommended amounts.

My favorite brand of hemp seeds are the raw, organic Hemp Hearts by Manitoba Harvest. I choose to purchase this brand because I find they’re nuttier and taste fresher than most brands, but other brands of hemp seeds are great to use too. Any raw, organic, and non-GMO brand of hemp seeds should be a top go-to food on your next grocery trip. You can find them at whole foods or buy them online at Manitoba Harvest or another online retailer. Do you use hemp seeds?
