By Rosalina

There are some healthy habits to get into this fall that I would like to share and who says we have to wait until January to make those resolutions anyway? Of course, increased daylight hours and the sunshine during the summer months is likely to make you feel great and there may be those of you who are already pining for the return of the summer sun. As a solution, I propose some fall resolutions and these healthy habits are sure to have you feeling great in the coming months!

1. Get Outdoors

This is a great time to get outdoors and revel in the beauty of fall. Don't you just love the fall colors? Okay, so it may be a little cooler but it's a great excuse to don that fabulous fall coat and those comfy boots and take a stroll in the fresh air. This is one of those healthy habits your body and mind will thank you for.

2. Be More Mindful

The benefits of mindfulness have been widely acknowledged and there is no better time to partake in a little mindfulness meditation. It's literally about being in the moment and not being in 'auto pilot' mode, which we're all guilty of doing. There are many podcasts and YouTube videos to help you get started and it's a wonderful habit which will benefit all areas of your life.

3. Set Some Goals

This is a great time to set some goals. As we approach the end of the year, it might be tempting to wait until January to set the goals but remember, the time is now. Set some achievable goals for the coming months. Maybe you want to take up a hobby. Perhaps there are a few books sitting by your bedside just waiting to be read or maybe you want to start learning a language. Whatever the goals are, make them now. Get your creative juices flowing and you'll feel super productive and fulfilled as a result.

4. Stay Social

As tempting as it might be to hibernate as the days get colder, it's still important to stay social. Don't neglect your social life just because the sun doesn't have his hat on. Make arrangements to meet friends for exercise or some pure, unadulterated fun.

What you choose to wear while working out can have a significant impact on your comfort and performance. One essential item is the sports bra. Lack of proper support can lead to discomfort and muscle tissue damage. Choosing a good sports bra can help prevent these problems and ensure a great workout!

5. Supplement

As the days get shorter and sun-light is a little more sparse than in the summer months, our vitamin D levels may suffer so taking a supplement may help. This will improve your mood if you're really hankering after the summer sun. Also, you may want to take a little echinacea to stave off any colds.

6. Eat Well

It might be tempting to succumb to stodgy comfort foods as the nights draw in but don't. By all means, treat yourself to a slice of that delicious pumpkin pie and pecan pie (yum yum) but be mindful of what you're eating. Eating the wrong things can deplete your energy resources and leave you reaching for high sugar and high fat snacks: Vicious circle alert! Instead, take advantage of the seasonal fruits and vegetables and enjoy healthy and hearty foods, which are full of energy and packed with the nutrients you need.

7. Dry Skin Brushing

Fancy improving your lung energy? Well, dry skin brushing is one way to do that as the skin is seen as the third lung. Keep the skin in great condition and your lung function will improve too!

8. Early Rise

I know it's hard as the mornings are a little darker, but getting into the habit of getting up early will set you up for a fabulous day. If you're a serial snooze button presser, put the alarm in a place where you have no choice but to get up and turn it off. Getting up earlier also means you will be more organized and might even be able to fit in some meditation and a little exercise too.

9. Exercise

I know, this one is obvious and at least one post a day here is telling you to do this very same thing. But the exercise you do in the coming months needs to be focused on preserving energy rather than exhausting the body. Think Pilates, yoga and some exercises using light weights to help the energy move around the body, rather than leaving you feeling depleted of energy and reaching for the pumpkin pie!

These are a few healthy habits to get into this fall. Which ones will you be adopting? Maybe you have some others I have missed out? I would love to hear.

I plan on trying yoga.

Trying to get back to my exercise routine! I work early mornings and the summer heat combined with long days makes it hard to work out early enough to go to bed at a reasonable time. Looking forward to making the most of the cooler, shorter days. Also need to get back on track with healthier eating before the holidays.

Great input. I just moved to Seattle from Southern California this Summer, so I've been dreading the solid grey wet fall/winter/spring months. I will definitely repeat this list to myself to help me form good habits this Fall. I also agree, getting outside is a game changer! It gives me an opportunity to marvel at the weather rather than just hiding from it.

Good talk!! I'll definitely try some of these advises
