1. Peppermint
Peppermint is one of my top herbs that stimulate digestion I would recommend to anyone. It has a very unique effect in the body. First, it has a calming effect to the gut, and also tames acidity in the body. It can help fight bloating, indigestion, gas, constipation, and diarrhea. Not many herbs can do all of that! Plus, peppermint can help relieve headaches, enhance mental focus, quell anxiety, and even assist with a low mood. Using fresh peppermint is best, but you can use the tea form as well. Sometimes I like to open up a peppermint tea bag and just use the leaves in a smoothie for a minty twist. You can also, of course, use pure peppermint oil in teas, smoothies, baked goods, or just drop a tiny amount in a glass of water.
2. Oregano
Oregano has been said to be the king of all herbs. It contains more antioxidants in one tablespoon than a whole cup of blueberries! Oregano is also highly alkaline, which means it helps fight acidity and inflammation, both in the stomach, and your whole body. Oregano can also stimulate digestion and prevent constipation. For your health, it can enhance your mood since it is a good source of Vitamin B6 as well. Vitamin B6 helps produce serotonin in the body, and can also assist with the digestion and assimilation of protein. Use oregano leaf, dried oregano, or oregano oil. As a bonus, it’s also an antiviral and anti-parasitic herb.

3. Thyme
Thyme is a natural calming herb, as well as an antiviral herb. It can help your stomach fight bad bacteria, and it helps fight yeast overgrowth as well. Thyme has also been proven to relieve headaches, enhance the mood, and can fight the common cold. Use dried or fresh thyme in soup, salads, or infuse it to make a tea.

Rosemary is actually a top remedy to fight yeast overgrowth in the stomach and intestines, which can lead to indigestion, pain, bloating, gas, and constipation. Rosemary can also help relieve headaches and fight the flu, along with a host of other health problems. Consume fresh rosemary or dried whenever possible, since these are more effective than supplements.
6. Sage
Sage is a power antiviral herb, and it also helps enhance digestion. It can dispel gas in the stomach, and can also assist with the digestion of protein. This is probably why it’s used at Thanksgiving with all the turkey! Sage is also a naturally calming herb. I like to use it in vegetable soup to help me relax. It’s great for relieving headaches, fighting bad bacteria, and can assist with quelling anxiety. I use rubbed sage since ground can have a bitter flavor. You can also opt for fresh sage, but it does mold fairly quickly, so I prefer dried, rubbed sage.
7. Parsley
Parsley is a top food to consume in fresh form, and in dried form. It is one of the most highly alkalizing herbs you can eat, and is also great for battling bloat, acidic stomach, and indigestion. Both curly and Italian parsley are fine, as they don’t have any nutritional differences. When buying dried or fresh, always buy organic to avoid chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As a bonus, parsley can help freshen your breath too!
