9 Home Remedies for Acid Reflux ...

By Neecey

There are several home remedies for acid reflux you can try if you prefer not to use over the counter medicines. They aren’t really the answer to persistent reflux and heartburn – for that you need to tackle the root cause – but they should work for the occasional bout. You aren’t alone if you suffer gastroesophageal reflux disease (to give it the medical name) – it is estimated it affects 50 per cent of Americans at some time in their lives. Acid reflux is basically a backsplash of acidic stomach solutions into the esophagus which causes irritation, a burning sensation, nausea, hoarseness, among others, and at worst, can lead to esophagael cancer. If you suffer regularly see your doctor, if it’s less worrisome, try some of these home remedies for acid reflux – one may just be the perfect solution for you.

Raw Almonds

Of all the home remedies for acid reflux this one is probably the tastiest. Chew on 5 or 6 almonds when you get an attack as an effective way to get rid of the burn and discomfort. Almonds are alkaline which can help to balance out your pH levels and reduce the acid. They are also pretty easy on the purse strings and are packed full of nutrients.

2

Lose Weight

If you are overweight then you might be more prone to problems such as acid reflux. Studies show that if you manage to lose just 10 percent of your body fat you will notice an improvement in your acid reflux problem. So, what are you waiting for; get your running shoes on or go out for a brisk walk.

3

Enjoy an Acid-reflux-friendly Diet

Unfortunately, many troublesome foods are the ones we love. Chocolate, cheese, chips, soda, alcohol and fatty meats are just a few which cause problems. In order to avoid recurring acid-reflux attacks you might find that you have to simply avoid these foods. However, a life on a permanent acid-free /low acid diet doesn’t sound too fun and it does only work for about 30 percent of people.

4

Apple Cider Vinegar

Never mind a spoonful of sugar, having a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in another of the DIY remedies for acid reflux. You can mix it with lemon or honey in tea, making it a delicious medicine. Acid reflux isn’t necessarily down to too much acid being produced; sometimes it is the exact opposite and there isn’t enough acid to effectively digest the food that you have eaten. That is why highly acidic foods will help to calm the problem.

5

Chamomile Tea

Enjoy a chamomile or mint tea between meals a few times a day. The tea can relieve irritated membranes in your digestive tract and allow for normal digestion. Another option to try is ginger tea. You can make this yourself easily by boiling a teaspoon of fresh ginger for around ten minutes.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Increase your saliva production by chewing gum. This can help to reduce acid levels in your digestive system and esophagus. Make sure that you are chewing sugar free gum to protect your teeth, especially if you find that it is the cure that works for you.

8

Sleep on Your Left Side

This one of the home remedies for acid reflux is the one that works for me. If I sleep on my stomach I can feel the pressure increasing and my symptoms getting worse. If you are a sufferer of acid reflux then you should try sleeping on your left side. It has even been studied and proven to reduce symptoms.

9

Warm Water and Lemon Juice

Wake up to a glass of warm water with fresh lemon. This is best drunk on an empty stomach and around 15 minutes before you eat your breakfast. The lemon juice in the drink helps to balance out your stomach’s acid levels. A great thing about this one of the home remedies for acid reflux is that it cheap and something that anyone can do to relieve their problem.

I’d love to hear if you have your own home remedies to treat acid reflux. What works for you?
