If you haven’t heard much about the Emotional Freedom Technique, allow me to enlighten you with some interesting facts about EFT and what it can do for you! The Emotional Freedom Technique might have a cheesy name, but it’s actually a really helpful treatment that’s often referred to as “psychological acupressure” or “acupuncture without needles.” EFT can help with things like anxiety, stress, pain management, TMJ, and migraines as well as many other conditions. If you’ve been curious about EFT or want to know what it’s about, be sure to read these facts about EFT.

1 What is It?

Before we get into the facts about EFT, let’s first get into what exactly it entails. Like acupuncture, EFT is based on the Chinese meridian energy system but it doesn’t involve any needles. Instead you’re tapping specific points or meridians on your face and body while focusing on a certain issue, thought or any kind of physical discomfort. TapIntoEFT.com indicates that “the process of gently tapping on these meridians or body points allows the body’s physical energy system to engage with the mind and this helps achieve alignment between the two.”

Frequently asked questions

2 How Does It Work?

Tapping on your body might seem a little strange, but if you tap on certain areas while focusing on certain thoughts or feelings and recite specific affirmations, it can help soothe physical or emotional discomfort. Negative feelings or pain can disrupt your body’s energy circuits and EFT can help relieve that distress. Some people feel some sort of relief on their first go at it while for others, it takes more practice.

3 Benefits

There are many benefits of Emotional Freedom Technique. As mentioned previously, people have used it to help relieve physical pain like back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, ulcers and digestive disorders. EFT is also helpful with emotional issues such as anxiety, anger, phobias, self-esteem issues and even weight loss, cravings and sleep problems.

4 Who Can Benefit from It?

Maybe you’re skeptical about how tapping on your body can help you or you don’t really feel like you have anything you need to work on. The good thing is that you don’t have to have a serious issue in order for it to benefit you. If you’re nervous about an upcoming performance or presentation or just need a little boost in self-esteem for getting through something, EFT can help with that, too.

5 Why Try It?

EFT is painless, easy to do and you can do it just about anywhere. If you’re feeling nervous or uneasy about something, go someplace private and have a quick tapping session. As long as you’re able to give your full attention to focusing on the tapping points and affirmation, it can be done whenever you feel the need. Anyone, including kids, can learn how to tap and it’s totally safe to do.

6 Research

You’ll find many websites and much literature devoted to the Emotional Freedom Technique touting the benefits of it and that it’s backed by science. However, there are others who believe that the research is flawed and there are no real benefits beyond the placebo effect. I haven’t seen all of the research behind EFT, but I do know firsthand that acupuncture has worked wonders for me so I was open to tapping and wanted to share it with you all. If there’s something out there that can possibly help you without any side effects and it’s free, why not try it?

7 Drawbacks

The drawbacks to EFT are that it can take time to learn and get used to and it doesn’t work for everyone. I’m still getting used to tapping and there is a lot to remember in the beginning such as what to say, where to tap, etc. However, with practice, it should get a lot easier. If you’re interested in seeing what tapping looks like and how to do it, please see the video above for a quick explanation of tapping. This particular video focuses on tapping for weight loss, but remember, it can be applied to many other things.

This was a very basic overview on EFT. There are many people who practice it and have different approaches to it so I wanted to give you just the basics. Have you heard of the emotional freedom technique before? What do you think of it?
