Do you ever have no idea what things to do when you are feeling down? We all experience times when we feel glum, fed up, and find it hard to get motivated and keep going. Please note that I am not talking about depression, which needs medical attention, but about feeling “down in the dumps.” So here are some things to do when you are feeling down …
1. Cycle of Life
It’s perfectly normal to have times when you feel downhearted. Life can´t be great all the time; we are going to have periods of doubt and worry. One of the things to do when you are feeling down is to remember that life has its cycles – and after the downs, you have ups to look forward to.
2. What’s the Alternative?
Frankly, there is no alternative to keeping going. What do we do, give up? Girls, that is not an option! We will all go through some pretty painful times in our lives, and we will all come out the other end. So remember that you’ve just got to keep going, grit your teeth, and it will pass.
3. Things Get Better
When you’re going through a rough patch, it can seem as though it will never end. Well, it does and it will. Remember what I said about the cycle of life – so hang on in there and wait for things to improve. Some rough patches do seem to last rather a long time, but they will pass in time.
4. You Have More than You Think
If you’re feeling down because you feel that there isn’t much that’s worthwhile in your life, then take a closer look. Yes, material possessions are great, but they aren’t everything. Learn to value what you do have, such a supportive friends, beautiful surroundings, or an exciting city.
5. You Are Loved
Do you feel that you don’t have enough love in your life? Even if you don’t have a partner, there are people who love you. Your parents, your siblings, your friends … even if they don’t say it, it’s still there. And don’t underestimate the love that our animal friends give us.
Another reason to keep going is that it shows you how much strength you have. We all have to face trials in our lives, and each time we do so, and come out the other end, it shows that we can cope. So take each difficult period as a challenge – find that inner strength and help yourself get through.
7. Work at It
Unfortunately, nobody’s life goes entirely smoothly. It just doesn’t happen. Since we all have problems and difficult periods, when it happens to you, you will have to work at getting through. There are no magic answers; when you’re feeling down because of life circumstances, make the effort and carry on.
8. You Can Improve Your Life
Do you go through those stages when you feel like there is no point even trying, because nothing ever seems to get better? Well, it can and it will. But often the only person who can do anything about improving our life is ourself. So remember that your life can get better – but you have to take the responsibility.
If you feel that life is a struggle and you aren’t getting anywhere, take heart. There are lots of good reasons to keep going; it does take a lot of mental effort, but it can be done. Even if you feel that it requires too much effort, try. Start with trying to find small reasons to keep going. And remember that when you’re down, the only way is up!
