I know it sounds a little crazy to seek sunlight during the cold, gray days of winter, but sunshine is one of the best ways to manage seasonal depression. You can do this by getting special light bulbs for your home or office and taking advantage of sunny days by spending time outdoors. Even when it's cold outside, you can still take advantage of the sun's rays when they appear.

Vitamins and minerals can also help manage seasonal depression. The proper vitamin care can improve your energy and lift your mood. Start with a daily multivitamin. You can also ask your doctor to do a blood test to check for any vitamin and mineral deficiencies, so you can find out what you may be missing.

Don’t think because it’s too cold to go outside for a run that you don’t need to exercise. Hello! That is why we have gyms. Regular exercise can definitely improve your mood. If you aren’t working out and feel a little blue, why not try getting active? I know a gym membership isn’t for everyone, but there are alternatives. When I have to move my workouts indoors due to weather, I use some of my favorite workout videos or just put on my favorite playlist and dance around like crazy. What ways do you get exercise indoors?

Don’t become a winter hermit. If you really want to manage seasonal depression, stay involved with your favorite activities and people. Connect with people at your church, volunteer at school, or just plan an amazing girl’s night out. Whatever it takes to get you involved, do it. I promise you won’t regret it.

Eat Right

Of course if you are going to go through the troubles of getting proper exercise, you also need to eat right. Are you starting to see a pattern here? It shouldn’t come as a surprise that eating right and exercise can cure a lot of health problems. Be sure to eat a well-balanced diet every day and avoid foods that are high in simple carbohydrates. Simple carbs tend to leave you feeling sluggish afterwards.

With the extra time you have to spend indoors, now is a great time to focus on projects and hobbies. Do you have a piece of furniture you have wanted to refurbish, a craft you’ve neglected, or a book you’ve wanted to read? Putting some focus towards fun projects is one way to manage seasonal depression.

Seek Help

If nothing else seems to work, don’t hesitate to seek medical intervention. Your doctor can help you evaluate your situation and put together the best plan of action for you. It may mean prescribing you anti-depression medication or something else.

I hope these things can help you manage seasonal depression. Seasonal depression is a common thing and many women are trying to find ways to manage seasonal depression. You are not alone in this. It is also important to know when you can’t do it on your own and need help from your doctor. Do you suffer from winter blues? How do you manage seasonal depression?
