1. Keep Your Lips Moisturized

Having dry lips can make a fever blister more likely to appear. Dry lips don’t cause fever blisters. They’re actually caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. But it does seem like having dry lips can trigger an outbreak. Keeping your lips moisturized by using a lip balm can help. This is an important part of preventing and treating fever blisters.

2. Watch Your Diet

Certain foods can bring on a fever blister outbreak. Chocolate, nuts and citrus fruits are all foods that can trigger a fever blister. It’s okay to enjoy those foods, just be careful to not over-indulge. It’s also possible that foods aren’t a trigger for you. It can be a good idea to keep a journal and write down any potential triggers you think may have caused your fever blisters when you get them. This will allow you to see any patterns that may emerge.

3. Be Cautious about Sun Exposure

Too much sun exposure can cause a fever blister. Be careful to wear a lip balm with SPF protection in it. If your lips get sunburned, a fever blister could very easily appear. It can also be helpful to wear a wide brimmed hat to give your lips a bit more protection from the sun. This is a trigger you can prevent by taking the right precautions.

4. Try Vitamins

There’re some theories that poor diet can trigger fever blisters. WebMD mentions this in an article on their site. For this reason, it’s thought that certain vitamins and supplements may be helpful because they can fill in gaps in your diet. Vitamin C, zinc and lysine have all been mentioned as supplements that could help. Of course it’s important to make sure you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet, too.

What you choose to wear while working out can have a significant impact on your comfort and performance. One essential item is the sports bra. Lack of proper support can lead to discomfort and muscle tissue damage. Choosing a good sports bra can help prevent these problems and ensure a great workout!

5. Apply Lysine

Lysine is thought to help prevent fever blisters when taken orally. But it can also be used to treat a fever blister topically. Simply wet a pill and hold it on the fever blister for a few minutes. You can also make a paste to apply with a tiny bit of water and a pill. I found this helpful in treating a fever blister that I had.

6. Try Abreva

There’re many over-the-counter products that you can buy to treat a fever blister. Abreva is at the top of the list and one doctors often recommend. Abreva works by speeding up the healing process. Therefore, the sooner you start using it after you get a fever blister, the better it will work. It generally costs between fifteen and twenty dollars for a tube and lasts through several fever blister outbreaks.

7. Talk to Your Doctor

If fever blisters are something that you often get, you may want to consider talking to your doctor about them. They may have other recommendations for you beyond what is listed here. There’re also medications they can prescribe to help prevent and treat fever blisters. Fever blisters are no fun and if you get them more than once in a while, it’s time to seek your doctor’s advice. It can make a big difference in your life.
