There are a countless number of reasons to do a cleanse. Perhaps, one of the most important out of the bunch is to help the body function at its best. In a way, I like to think of a cleanse like a reset button because, even though the body does a great job at removing waste and fighting off unwelcome guests, it still needs a little help from time to time. 1

Remove Toxins from the Body

Whether it’s from the air you breathe or the foods you eat, exposure to toxins and other harmful chemicals is an unfortunate reality—a scary thought, I know! The ability of toxins to enter the body and cause both short and long-term damage is one of the most persuasive reasons to do a cleanse. One of the benefits of a cleanse is the removal of these harmful substances from the body with the goal of improving overall well-being.

2

Help Prevent Chronic Disease

In a lot of ways, the buildup of toxins may initiate the development of chronic disease in the body, especially when it comes to inflammation. Prolonged inflammation in the body can manifest into a whole host of problems if it goes unnoticed or untreated. An excellent way to help break the link between harmful substances in the body and the onset of disease, aside from healthy eating and exercise, is with a cleanse! With the rich source of essential nutrients, minerals and antioxidants that a cleanse provides, it works to not only inhibit the buildup of toxins and other chemicals but also disrupt the process that causes chronic disease in the body. Thank you cleanse!

3

Promote Better Immunity

What’s not to love about the immune system? I can go on and on about all the great things that the immune system does on a daily basis, but the greatest of all its many functions is none other than defense. As the body’s first line of protection against disease causing organisms, the immune system is an aggressive fighter. However, even the greatest of fighters needs some help at times. When it comes to the immune system, a great place to start is with a cleanse which works to help eliminate the destructive effects of harmful substances in the body thereby improving overall immunity.

4

Improve Metabolic Function

Sometimes, the foods that are readily available may be full of unhealthy sources of nutrients like trans fat, sugar and caffeine. The effects of these foods tend to wreak havoc on the body’s metabolic function, greatly slowing it down and making it less efficient. Oh, and what comes with slow metabolism? The dreaded weight gain! To help reverse the damage of eating food rich in empty calories, a cleanse can help reset the body’s metabolic function by supplying the body with sources of nutrients that are easy to break down and use for energy.

5

Increased Energy

In addition to improving bodily function, a cleanse can also help in increasing your energy level. This, in turn promotes greater productivity. When your body is functioning at optimal level, you are likely to reap the rewards of not only feeling great but also having the energy to fulfill daily activities and demands. So the next time you are feeling overwhelmed by sluggishness and lethargy, consider doing a cleanse as a means to give your energy level a wake-up call.

Encourage Healthy Habits

Once I have gone through the effort of doing a cleanse—which is not half as bad as I initially anticipated—the last thing I want to do to is run for that bag of chips. After completing a cleanse, you feel a great sense of well-being. To continue to feel refreshed and energized, eating a diet that is rich in healthy nutrients is key. I found myself going more for fruits, vegetables, and other nutrient-dense foods; therefore, I can honestly say that a cleanse promotes healthy eating.

7

Clear Skin

To be completely honest, this is probably one of my most vain reasons for doing a cleanse—clear skin! Let just say that my blemish problem followed me into adulthood--much to my dismay—and after doing my first cleanse, I noticed a significant difference in the clarity of my skin. In addition to purifying the body’s internal organs of residual toxins, a cleanse also targets the body’s largest external organ—the skin. You may not be able to see the phenomenal works of a cleanse on the inside, but you will definitely notice it on the outside when your skin becomes more radiant, smooth, and clear.

It is safe to say that a cleanse yields many benefits from improved metabolism to increased energy. When combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, these benefits are likely to be magnified. Some great reasons to do a cleanse were reviewed here, but what are some of your favorites reasons to do a cleanse? Have you ever done a cleanse?
