7 Health Benefits of Using Anise Seeds ...

Heather

This past year, I’ve started enjoying the benefits of using anise seeds in my meals each day. When reading a book about herbs and spices to use for your overall health, I discovered anise seeds. Previously, I knew nothing about them, other than the fact my grandmother loved them. The tiny, licorice-smelling and tasting seeds just never appealed to me, but now I know how much I was missing out. If you’re curious about how to enhance your health, look at the benefits of using anise seeds and try some yourself!

1

Reduce Bloating

The most popular of all benefits of using anise seeds is they reduce bloating, and very quickly, might I add. Anise seeds contain a volatile oil known as anethole that helps reduce bloating associated with heavy meals, or poor digestion overall. You can add them to your meals, or chew the seeds afterwards.

2

Sweet Flavor

Many people use anise seeds in baking, or anise flavored extract due to the sweet, licorice taste it has. While I’ve never liked licorice, I’ve found I adore anise. The seeds are subtly sweet, so it has a nice flavor when added to foods like oatmeal, smoothies, and even roasted veggies. I also like to brew tea with the seeds. This can reduce your sugar cravings, along with satisfying your palate during meals.

3

Anti-fungal

Anise seeds are also anti-fungal. They help to reduce symptoms of candida yeast overgrowth, parasites, as well as even keeping away the common flu! The seeds are a good source of Vitamin C, which gives them their anti-fungal powers.

4

Eliminate Stomach Pain

Since anise seeds help break down food in the stomach, they can help quell stomach pains quickly and efficiently. Anethole, the volatile oil found in anise that I mentioned, is the reason for this special power they hold. Eliminating stomach pains the most natural way possible, is always the best option, instead of popping over the counter medications that might cause other negative health issues.

5

Speeds up Digestion

If you suffer slow digestion, anise seeds can also help with that. Anise, fennel, and caraway seeds are all known for helping to speed up digestion, which can help eliminate that overly heavy feeling after meals. This can also help ensure regularity and proper elimination.

B Vitamins

Would you believe these little tiny seeds are also a wonderful source of B vitamins? Who knew! You can actually get a large amount of vitamins through many herbs and spices. Anise seeds are rich in Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, niacin, and riboflavin. These can help speed your metabolism as well as enhance your brain health.

7

Trace Minerals

Anise seeds are also very high in trace minerals like iron, copper, zinc, manganese, potassium, and magnesium. Don’t neglect your minerals when taking care of your body. Vitamins aren’t the only piece to the puzzle. Minerals from whole foods like anise seeds, can help your metabolism, your brain health, your nervous system health, and your digestive system more than you know.

If you ask me, with all the benefits of using anise seeds, there’s just no excuse not to at least give them a try. I like Frontier Natural Products Co-Op brand Organic Anise Seeds, which you can find here: iherb.com. Do you use anise seeds?

Are anise and fennel the same thing?? I'm not sure! Anyway, I have endometriosis and I often feel bloated or gassy. I've found that using fennel seeds to make tea works incredibly well in getting rid of gas.
