7 Healthy Reasons to Drink Kombucha ...

Jessica

As a big proponent of healthy living, I have found that there are good reasons to drink kombucha that everyone needs to know about. Known as the «Immortal Health Elixir» by the Chinese and originating in the Far East around 2,000 years ago, kombucha is a beverage with tremendous health benefits. A fermented brew of black tea and cane sugar, kombucha contains B vitamins, enzymes, probiotics and a high concentration of acid (acetic, gluconic, and lactic), all of which contribute to the list of reasons to drink kombucha.

Improving Digestion

Having a smooth running digestive system really plays a major role in how we feel from day to day. Unfortunately, many of us seem to have issues in this area and just don’t know how to regulate it. Well thanks to kombucha’s high levels of beneficial acid, probiotics and enzymes, it is proven to improve digestion and this is one of the main reasons to drink kombucha.

2

Increasing Energy

As a mom of a toddler, I need all of the energy I can get. And while I won’t take any artificial stimulants, I have found that kombucha’s blend of B vitamins and natural caffeine really do wonders for my energy levels. This is thanks to the formation of iron that is released from the black tea during the fermentation process, which not only improves oxygen supply to tissues but helps stimulate the energy producing process at the cellular level.

3

Cleansing and Detoxification

I’m personally not a big proponent of juice cleanses or taking part in any sort of diet that claims to be a cleanse or a detox. I just don’t think that they are sustainable and they don't allow your body to get all of the nutrients that it needs. However, thanks to the high levels of antioxidants and enzymes in kombucha, it will act as a natural cleanse and detox for your body, while still enabling you to get the nutrients you need from other sources.

4

Weight Loss

Taking in calories to lose weight seems counterintuitive, but evidence has shown that kombucha can improve metabolism and limit fat accumulation. Although I’m not going to say this is a complete fact, it does makes sense that kombucha supports weight loss since it’s high in acetic acid and polyphenols which have been proven, in other studes, to increase weight loss.

5

Immune Support

Kombucha has an amazing ability to control free radicals due to its high levels of antioxidants. The probiotics found in kombucha are also known to support the immune system, as are the high levels of Vitamin C.

Joint Support

Kombucha can help heal, repair and prevent joint damage in a number of ways. Loaded with glucosamines, which increase synovial hyaluronic acid production, it supports the preservation of collagen and prevents arthritic pain. In this same way, it can also support collagen of the entire body and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

7

Cancer Prevention

Glucaric acid has been proven beneficial for cancer prevention and recovery. As one of the main components of kombucha, it makes sense to say that drinking this beverage can play a part in reducing the risk of cancer in humans. In fact, President Reagan reportedly drank kombucha daily as part of his regimen to battle stomach cancer.

With so many health benefits being attributed to drinking kombucha, why wouldn’t you give this centuries old elixir a try? And at only $3-5 a bottle at most health food stores, it’s definitely a lot cheaper than many of the other health remedies on the market these days! What is your favorite brand of kombucha?
