Wishing you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks to friends and family and with this we have a turkey, countless side dishes and numerous desserts. This celebratory day is a holiday loved by so many because of all the joy and gratitude. Although you may not eat completely healthy there are ways to skim the calories so you do not tip the scale. Remember one day will not break you but small changes can make a big difference for today and all the other parties, holidays and food feasts that come at this time of year. So take a page from my book with tips on how to stay healthy this Thanksgiving!
Start your Thanksgiving day with a turkey day run. This is an annual ritual in my life. There is nothing better than screaming Happy Thanksgiving to a bunch of running strangers and then running a race together. This is a great way to burn some calories that you will be consuming later and have a blast! Speaking of which, I need to register for my turkey day run today before registration closes!
If you are going to a relatives or friends home this Thanksgiving, don’t be lazy and bring a side dish and dessert. Create a healthy dish that will not only help out the host but also help you to save some calories. Make sure you are creative in making something that is both low fat and tasty; the guests will never know the difference!
Instead of plopping down on Aunt Janet’s couch and sitting there lifeless for several hours, mingle in the kitchen as you help out the host and avoid overeating chips and other snacks. By making this choice you will not only be a hero to the host but you will avoid mindlessly grazing on the snacks on the table.
If you are hosting Thanksgiving you have complete control over the menu and yahoo for that! Don’t go overboard and have kale shakes with your meal but take baby steps in the health direction. Have creamed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes and roast your veggies after tossing in olive oil instead of frying. Skim calories where you can and you will be embodying the healthier lifestyle you have adopted.
Start your day the right way with a healthy, hearty breakfast of two scrambled eggs, one slice of whole wheat toast, diced mushrooms and onions. By starting your day with protein you will feel fuller longer and have plenty of energy for this special Thanksgiving day!
All around the world people are beginning to host Planksgiving as part of their Thanksgiving celebrations. It is pretty simple but a great way to involve the whole family. Just get in the Plank position and plank for as long as you can. If you are the host pick up a gift card to award the winner to increase the excitement.
Apple pie, crumb cake, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, cookies ... so much temptation is in your way. Do not stress and taste a little of what you desire. A taste never broke a healthy eating plan, but gorging can. If you learn to taste rather than over indulge you will live a life of self-control and moderation.
