1

Good Food

The first step for a healthy home starts in your fridge and pantry. Processed foods aren’t good for you. They don’t help your body in any way. What you want are healthy natural foods that will boost your immune system, strengthen bones, and reduce fat. I suggest stocking up on fresh fruit and veggies, lean protein, complex grain, beans, and nuts.

2

Water

A healthy home doesn’t need a hundred different types of soda. All you really need is fresh water. The best tip for a healthy home is to install a water filter, there are many different types to choose from. You can get one that attaches to your water faucet or one that attaches to the piping under the sink. If your fridge has a water dispenser, check to see if it also has a water filtering system. It may be time to change your filters.

3

Dust

Dust can cause major problems for people with allergies. If you or your family members suffer from dust allergies you are going to want to take the necessary steps to limit dust in your home. Start by dusting all surfaces around the home regularly. Dusting once a week should be good, and guest rooms or other rooms that aren’t used often can go longer between dusting. You also want to clean off fan blades and blinds with a wet rag. Both of these are notorious for collecting dust.

4

Air Filter

Another tip for a healthy home is changing your air filter regularly. Check the brand of your air filter, some only need to be changed every 3 months while others need changing once a month. The better quality filter you buy the better air quality in your home. Air filters help limit the amount of dust and dander blowing through your home.

5

Germs

Germs are one of those things that are just hard to get away from. Encourage family members to change clothes and wash their hands as soon as they come in from being out. This is especially important for school age children, I always have my daughter wash and change after school. Also keep hand sanitizer out for quick disinfecting after. Use natural disinfecting wipes on kitchen and bathroom counters, on your remote controls, phones, door knobs, light switches, and on your computer keyboards and mouse. These are frequent areas touched by hands. Disinfecting wipes will help kill germs and prevent them from spreading.

Shoe Free Home

Our shoes track a lot of dirt and other yuckiness from outside. You walk on crowded streets, in parking lots, through the grass, in the sand, or in public bathrooms. All that gunk gets on the soles of your shoes. Are you really okay with bringing that into your home and around your family? I didn’t think so. Set up a place to store shoes at the front door or ask family members to take their shoes off as they come in and carry them to their rooms.

7

Greenery

Add plants to your home. Some plants like the Spider plant help filter pollutants from your home. How awesome is it to think that a simple plant can improve the quality of air in your home. You can also use this tip for a healthy house and plant a garden to grow your own vegetables and herbs. There is nothing like a delicious summer salad made from your own home grown goodness.

8

Home Made Cleaners

As another tip for a healthy home I suggest making your own cleaners. It is hard to know what is in all of the different products on the market. Do you really know if those chemicals are harmful to your family or pets? Vinegar, water, and baking soda are excellent natural cleaners. Try them and share with us what you think about homemade cleaners or if you have used them before.

9

Stress Free

Your house can be free of dust and germs and packed with the healthiest of foods yet still be very unhealthy. Make sure your home is stress free or at least limited on stress. Try to run as organized a home as possible. Create routines and stick to them. Have family members treat each other kindly and with respect. Remember to laugh often and share good moments together. These are only a few things you can do to reduce the stress in your house to create a healthy home.

How healthy is your home? Are there ways you can improve your home? Which of these tips for a healthy home did you find most useful or interesting? I would love to learn your tips for a healthy home too.
