There is some self-care you must do in winter. When the cold winter months come around, it can be very tempting to shut yourself away and start to neglect some of the fine-tuning aspects of your life. The winter can be challenging, both mentally and physically, with lots of things to think about around the holiday season and an unforgiving climate that doesn’t want to be kind to your body! To avoid some of the wintertime blues that are so common across the world, it is important to take a proactive role in keeping yourself happy, content and in a comfortable frame of mind. To help you achieve this, I have put together a little list of five musts for self-care you must do in winter.

1. Skincare

Just because the blazing sun isn’t around, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have to maintain a regular skincare regime. In fact, the cold, harsh conditions of a snowy winter can be just as damaging to your skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the season to stay hydrated, and invest in a tub of great facial moisturizer and body lotion that will keep you silky smooth. It is also good at this time to try a face mask at least once a week for replenishment. Paying attention to your skin is one of the most important aspects of self-care you must do in winter.

2. Keep Working out

The cold weather outside can make working out feel like the last thing in the world that you want to do, but it is vital for maintaining your physical health over the winter period. If you normally go jogging outside, why not try a treadmill in a gym? That way you’ll be getting the same exercise but without all of the unwanted outdoors elements!

3. Good Sleep

Getting regular and meaningful sleep over the winter is really important. Because of things like changes in daylight and lots of time off over Christmas, our sleeping habits can really get out of whack. You should try your best to maintain your normal sleeping hours during this time because your body appreciates consistency.

4. It’s Okay to Slow down

The nature of the winter period makes it really tempting to slow everything in your life down, and that is totally fine so long as you don’t stop altogether. You don’t want to push yourself to the limit in horrible cold conditions, so it’s fine to cancel a few plans and strip back a few things from your schedule, but don’t become a complete wintertime hermit because it will be very hard to readjust when the New Year comes around and everybody is going back to their normal lives.

5. Vitamin D

Getting all of the vitamins and nutrients on the spectrum is important all year round, but during winter, Vitamin D is particularly valuable. This is the vitamin that we get from the sun, and when that isn’t around as much, our levels fall and can lead to things like illness and depression. This can be easily rectified with the purchase of a good old fashioned supplement!
