If you are someone who suffers from sensitive teeth, then you know just how debilitating it can be. Even the sight of someone biting into ice cream or sipping an ice-cold drink can set you off, not to mention super hot foods as well! It’s a real pain to have to make food and drink choices based on what kind of temperature you think your teeth can handle, but there are things you can do to make it better. Here are five great tips for helping to reduce the sensitivity in your teeth.

1. Change Toothpaste
If you just use a generic type of toothpaste, you really need to make the switch to a brand that is specifically designed to help with sensitivity. You should be looking for one that contains potassium nitrate, as that can help to block the tiny tubules in dentin that can cause sensitive pain.
2. Be Gentle
Always remember to be gentle when brushing - it’s not an exercise where you need to show off your arm strength! Think about this way, if you scrub your skin too hard when washing, you are going to cause irritation. Exactly the same thing can be said for your teeth during brushing. You want to remove debris and provide a layer of paste protection, nothing more.
3. Stop Grinding
Teeth grinding is a habit lots of us have when we are children, and then some of us carry on through to adulthood. Grinding your teeth and having a tightly clenched jaw all the time can cause stress on the teeth and wear away the enamel that is there to protect against things like temperature changes. The less enamel protection you have, the more sensitive your teeth are going to be.
4. Address Receding Gums
If you have noticed that your gums are receding in places, then you need to get them seen to ASAP. It might not be painful, but it certainly isn’t normal or good. Your gum tissue covers the roots of your teeth, and if they become exposed, you can expect to be really badly affected by sensitivity.
What you choose to wear while working out can have a significant impact on your comfort and performance. One essential item is the sports bra. Lack of proper support can lead to discomfort and muscle tissue damage. Choosing a good sports bra can help prevent these problems and ensure a great workout!
5. Avoid Sugary Drinks
This one is surely a no-brainer! You should be avoiding sugary sodas that work to deteriorate your enamel over time. While you're at it, you might as well ditch things like red wine and overly acidic foods too, because they have a similar effect.
